I think the way things are is bullshit and we all deserve better, so I'm doing what I can to help make that happen.

PSA: Imagination is not just for kids. The idea that adults shouldn't day dream, play, and just generally using their imagination is, imo, a tool of socialization and to stunt the growth of movements.

Imagination is a muscle, and like any muscle, if you don't use it enough, it becomes weak and harder to use it regularly or for long periods.

Revolutionary change requires us to imagine what life could be like outside of the current system.

What would a world without or look like?

What would happen if we got rid of the and instead instituted a different way of resolving conflict?

Why SHOULDNT all people have free access to , , and ?

I often hear people reply to questions like this with phrases such as, "Well, that's just the way things are," or "Not everything is fair."

Sometimes, people who respond this way are actual , but I've found through many encounters that what's really happening is that many people simply can not imagine a different reality or world.

They have let their imagination muscles grow weak and atrophied, and as a result, it seems tiresome and ridiculous to even spend time attempting to imagine what things could be like in a world where people are treated with dignity and compassion.

Of course, it should be noted that a lifetime of oppression and living in a , where most people are overwhelmed just trying to survive, that imagination can be hard and even painful.

Some people don't want to imagine a different world because they don't want to think about the things they don't believe they can have OR the things they don't believe they deserve. Or both.

Whenever I start to feel demoralized like this, or imagining a better world feels painful, I remind myself that many who came before me didn't allow hard times to keep them from flexing their imaginary muscles.

Imagination is a cornerstone to building a revolutionary movement! You cannot win if you don't believe you can. The world won't get better if you don't truly believe the world deserves better.

If you need to be reminded, look at the people. They are facing , while the world powers look on and do nothing. They are starving and being bombed every single day. Yet, they still fight back. There are many many videos in which Palestinians fervently and passionately say "One day will be free."

They are suffering, yes, but they know that a will be lost if they don't continue to believe it will happen.

I've been off of social media for almost a month recovering from a concussion.

I always talk about how important it is to care for community members in this . I've always been someone who loves caring for people. However, in practice, I struggled to ask for and accept help and care. Part of that is my socialization and lived experience as a cis woman. The other part is the we all deal with. I've done a lot of work dismantling this inside myself - but alas, it persists.

I often found myself feeling guilty and shameful for needing help. I tended towards not even asking and making assumptions about my loved ones' capacity and desire to help me. I've known this for a long time and been working on it, but it was so easy to fall back into old patterns.

While talking with a friend a few days ago, I mentioned I wanted to see my other close friend but didn't want to ask her to drive an hour to see me because I didn't want to stress her out. Rightfully, my friend called me out and told me it isn't fair to make assumptions about what my loved ones may or may not want to do, and I need to trust people to make those decisions for themselves.

That conversation and my recovery (still ongoing) have served as an important reminder that asking for help requires becoming comfortable with feeling vulnerable, and naturally, under , many of us have internalized the lie that vulnerability is weakness. Like any muscle you want to build, becoming comfortable with being vulnerable takes practice. It feels strange and somewhat painful at first, but when people show up for you, it's not as hard every time you practice it.

Anyway, this is your reminder that caring for others tends to be easier than asking for and accepting care ourselves. Practice being vulnerability with your loved ones. People can't show up for you if you don't give them the chance.

In these days of , where is allowed to continue to spread unchecked, where are killed everyday in a livestreamed ,we can't afford to allow the way things are to harden us.

Stay soft. Practice and . Remember that the internal work of dismantling all the bullshit capitalism ingrains within us is always ongoing.

See yall soon. I'm still recovering, but making small progress every day thanks to my lovely partner and friends.

🧵
Last week, my mom tested positive for Covid for the 2nd (known) time.

In case you haven't read my previous threads, my family back in the Midwest doesn't up in public or test regularly. Basically, living life like doesn't exist/treating Covid like its a cold.

I frequently send them masks unsolicited to at least make sure they have them on hand. Thankfully, my mom wore one to church on Sunday because she felt "off". She tested positive later that day, and I'm hoping the mask kept her from spreading it to other churchgoers.

Anyways, I digress.

That is why I keep advocating.

Because as frustrated and exhausted I am, I love my fellow human beings, and I want us all to be safe and healthy and cared for. I don't want to see anyone suffer, and if the government is going to abandon us, then we have to be there for each other.

We are all we have.

Don't stop telling your stories. Don't stop talking about Covid.
