There was a questionable article written with that number not long ago. It’s completely bullshit though.

I’ll use my own experience as an example: I got approved for a mortgage of 125k (which is fairly low for my area, but there are still options) with the understanding that I’d be getting a house with a few issues that I can work on. My 30 year mortgage rate if I had managed to buy a house at that time would have been around 700 a month. If you double those numbers to 250k, 1400 a month and you earn 4x that amount your annual salary needs to be just under 70k.

Just for reference, there are a significant number of homes for sale for 250k or less, and I live in one of the top 10 most populated cities in the country.

Coskii,

There is no world where a law aimed at this type of thing will ever be used for its intended purpose.

Coskii,

It seems you have missed the point of being in therapy. They’re not a friend, they are a guide for you to use to better understand yourself. Therapy is meant to explore parts of yourself that you want to work on or that need to be addressed (such as self harm).

Some people find it difficult to think about themselves and having someone to listen to those people’s explanation of their week might just shed some light for that person on why they feel a certain way about the things which happen around them.

It’s also something that you must actually commit to. Going to therapy and either lying constantly or being very tight lipped about things because you feel like you are being teated/judged/analysed are not going to yield any real results compared to someone who is as open as they can possibly be about themselves.

Coskii,

It heavily depends on the reason for being in therapy, but a lot of times what people do get out of it is a different perspective on themselves and the world around them. It’s not a cure, it’s a series of plans/strategies to handle those feelings in non-destructive ways. It’s about understanding where their issue stems from, sometimes it’s just an imbalance of brain juices, sometimes it’s something to do with their past or upbringing, or education. If it’s the second one, therapy can help those people explore those parts of their past to understand the reasons why they are feeling the things they are feeling and how to mitigate or better handle those feelings.

Others have explained it fairly well too, I think you’ve got a decent enough handle on why therapists are a thing.

Coskii,

Say what you will, I will use the soda spoon for most purposes so that I feel like a giant eating with a tiny spoon.

Coskii,

I’m one of those who have extremely mild symptom. Just one. A minor sore throat. No mucus build up, no coughing, no fever, etc etc. In my line of work it’s not terribly uncommon to finish a random day with heavy circular saw use and have worse symptoms than covid (for me). I consider myself very lucky but it sure was strange when my job site all got it and I was seemingly unaffected.

Coskii,

Those cards are really well done. The guys who worked on the cards did an amazing job.

Coskii,

If I get another life aquatic out of this, it’s an absolute win.

Coskii,

Well now I want a version of this sport that starts as a scavenger hunt to find the scoring area before you can score any points.

Coskii,

Thank you, those are the numbers I cared about.

Coskii,

Ah. Is there a list somewhere of places we’ve defederated from? I haven’t been keeping up with my fellow lemmy.blahaj’s.

Coskii,

Again? Could it be the same guy from last time?

Coskii, (edited )

I’m sure it doesn’t have anything to do with user trust/confidence in their product/service…

Coskii,

For the memes, the candle of infinite burning, for the comfort, blankie.

Coskii,

I’d be so stoked if the 50+% people who decide not to vote had someone who they are willing to vote for. I don’t care if it’s from the two main groups.

I am fine with protest votes and those who simply don’t vote, I’m just stating a desire for the ballots to have an option for everyone.

Coskii,

really? I’ve managed it a few times and it honestly wasn’t all that hard. I moved one of them in with me for a bit due to an extreme life situation they were going through.

Coskii,

I had started to write a lengthy response on mobile before others had commented, but after the conversations which were had, most of that is now unneeded.

The short version is: After high school, if you have any relatives willing to take her in, send her that way. It’ll be much better for everyone.

Coskii,

It’s not that she doesn’t listen, it’s just that she hasn’t been given a reason to care. I’d imagine that at some point(s) through the years, she did try to ‘be better’, only for it not to match up with expectations, and subsequently learned that being absent as much as possible would yield easier results to handle.

And on her plus side, at least she actually has something she wants to do/be after school and with the right encouragement, could actually avoid the years of meandering I went through from living in a very similar situation during my teenage years.

Coskii,

It’s kind of hard to do something about it (legally) when the oversight and accountability investigators are shut down.

Coskii,

At the start of 2023 there wasn’t one for me. I was in a rut and generally felt that if I didn’t spend the money on myself, my SO would. About 6 months later I had one entire paycheck vanish midway through the week from excessive takeout purchases (150+ daily) and quickly set a budget. We each get about 200 a week for ‘allowance’ to do with as we please, about another 200 for food for both of us, and the rest was going into aavings/toward bills, but then in November I realized just how little the principle on the credit card we haven’t used in two years was being paid with auto-pay and diverted the savings money towards that.

Currently, I’ve knocked down the CC by a third, plan to get it under control by march of work keeps up, then going back into savings and continuing with the basic plan.

Coskii,

Ever think that wisdom teeth were supposed to be the replacements from back when our life expectancy was like 30?

Coskii, (edited )

While not exactly what you’re looking for, I thought the idea might inspire you somewhat.

I present to you Simone Giertz retractable puzzle table.

Edit: as to what to look out for… As long as you’re specific about wants and needs for the table, there shouldn’t be any issues. Shopping around for materials both wood and otherwise are going to be something you’ll want to source yourself. Provide some decent plans and be abundantly clear on the usage and intention of the table.

And if you’re going to have the dining top be a monolithic slab of material, make sure one person can reasonably lift it. Don’t go grabbing some dense hardwood and making that thing a beast to remove.

Coskii,

Ruffle has gotten to the point that I can share the joy of this beauty again. I regret nothing.

Coskii,

I had to go look it up because fuck an article being clear to layman about shit.

3C to 4C charging means that it goes from 10% to 80% in roughly 20 minutes. No word on if the battery has a longer cycle life than current lithium ion batteries, or anything else most consumers would be interested in knowing. But hey, good to know someone out there is working with sodium batteries in a mass production way.
