For those seeing this on lemmy who don’t understand, this is a post on mastodon, but op accidentally @ed the lemmy community, so it shows up as a post on lemmy. Its like if you tweeted something but @ed the relevant subreddit so it showed up there as a reddit post also

(Also: Mastodon is bigger than lemmy and often has more permissive image hosting, so sometimes its useful to use a mastodon server’s image hosting to post on lemmy if your lemmy instance has convoluted rules about image uploads that are hard to manage, especially from mobile. Just @ the complete name of the lemmy community on an image post via mastodon and it gets posted as a lemmy post to that community. The first line of text becomes the title, the rest of the text becomes the body of the post)

For folks viewing your post on lemmy it looks like you posted an ad for framework to the framework “subreddit”, called a community here. But if you look at the account that posted, they’ll see your account is on a mastodon server.

If you edit your post and look at the full address of framework you @ed you’ll see you @ed the lemmy community, and not a mastodon account dedicated to framework

Just like with reddit the Post’s time in the spotlight passes and no one sees it anymore unless they go looking for it, and the comments now explain it was a misunderstanding. Lemmy isn’t even very big so it’s not like an enormous number of people were confused/irritated anyway

I think it’s clear you have never experienced being sexualized when you weren’t okay with it. It’s a pretty upsetting experience that can feel pretty violating. And as most guys rarely if ever experience being sexualized, never mind when they don’t want to be, I’m not surprised people might be unable to emphasize

Having experienced being sexualized when I wasn’t comfortable with it, this kind of thing makes me kinda sick to be honest. People are used to having a reasonable expectation that posting safe for work pictures online isn’t inviting being sexualized. And that it would almost never be turned into pornographic material featuring their likeness, whether it was previously possible with Photoshop or not.

It’s not surprising people would find the loss of that reasonable assumption discomforting given how uncomfortable it is to be sexualized when you don’t want to be. How uncomfortable a thought it is that you can just be going about your life and minding your own business, and it will now be convenient and easy to produce realistic porn featuring your likeness, at will, with no need for uncommon skills not everyone has
