Interesting sideeffect: Quadrupling my cooling power also finally enables my printer to print acceptable overhangs (left with support, right without). Prior to this fix, the best I could do was about what you can see on the right, but WITH Support. (This is PETG, which is generally a bitch in regard to bridging)

Seit wir unsere PV-Anlage in Betrieb haben, beobachte ich unseren Stromverbrauch und da fallen einem Dinge auf, die, nun ja, eigentlich offensichtlich sind. Man weiß sie schon, aber es hat mir nochmal die Größenordnungen von Leistung vor Augen geführt.

@tomkalei ich möchte hier mal bei den Verbräuchen von Autos einhaken. Erstens haben E-Autos idR kein Getriebe sondern Direktantrieb. Dadurch wird wesentlich mehr Leistung bei Beschleunigung abgefragt, weil du keine Untersetzung hast. Das ist wie Fahrrad im 18. Gang. Was aber wichtig ist, ein Großteil dieser Arbeit (Minus Luftwiderstand und Wirkungsgrad) kriegt das E-Auto beim Bremsen ja wieder zurück. Was mMn aussagekräftiger ist ist die durchschnittliche Arbeit pro Kilometer, nicht Spitzenlast

@tomkalei klar gewinnt hier auch 'kein Auto' vor allem, aber es ist halt trotzdem schon Äpfel mit Birnen verglichen. Handy PC, Wasserkocher, alle 'verbrauchen' den Strom, den sie konsumieren. Ein E-Auto wandelt ihn nur um und wandelt einen Teil zurück.

It is interesting to see in that the switch from 12V to 24V for my fans is actually increasing the power cost of a print noticeably by more than 10% (Top is the power cost at 24V, bottom at 12V)
But all in all I am still amazed at how little power actually plays into the total cost of a print.

@byteborg no no no wait you misunderstand. I didn't switch the fans. I had 24V Fans all along but accidentially drove them with 12V only. That caused them to only deliver 25% of Airflow. now that I fixed that, the fans blow around 4 times the volume, that's the whole point of that :D

Amazon überlegt sich, random eine nicht mehr existierende Kontoverbindung als neuen Standard auszuwählen.
Amazon versucht von dort einzuziehen.
Amazon informiert mich, dass die Zahlung gebounced ist. Ich überweise 6 Stunden nach Erhalt der Mail manuell
48 Stunden später sperrt Amazon mein Konto.
Haben die Lack gesoffen?????

Spent the weekend playing various intensive Steam games on my Framework Laptop 16 - dGPU switching just magically happens when you launch a game - no DRI_PRIME needed on Framework Laptop AMD images of Bazzite. And they're just getting warmed up. https://bazzite.gg

Also, on my Framework Laptop 13 running Bluefin - look to the upper left corner at the launcher. Yeah, and Bluefin is just warming up.

@Fischblog der Vergleich hinkt aber massiv. Ein Ladepunkt ist eher eine Zapfsäule statt einer Tankstelle. 15 Ladepunkte auf einer Raststätte an der A1 substituiert nicht ernsthaft 15 Tankstellen. Zusätzlich hast du ja auch noch wesentlich weniger Reichweite und damit noch mehr Anforderungen an eine Gleichverteilung des Ladenetzes. Ich freue mich über die 33k Ladesäulen, aber ich glaube da braucht es schon noch deutlich mehr. Und endlich E-Kleinstwagen mit vernünftiger Reichweite!

The last couple of weeks were a bit too much between work and some personal things, and so I decided that this time I'll take a break before I hit a burnout.

Tomorrow is a public holiday and I'm also going to take off Thursday. Fridays I don't work anyhow (three day weekend for two plus years now to keep the burnout at bay), so that will be five days of doing stuff that I want to do vs that I have to do.

I hope that'll recharge the batteries 😅

@ewolff was mich offengestanden besorgt macht ist, dass Mastodon (als Serverbetreiber, nicht primär als Software Entwickler) damit doch auch unter US-Rechtssprechung fällt oder? Die USA sind im Bereich Zugriff und Verfolgung durch Behörden ja schon einiges "weiter"

@sixtus bei aller gebotenen Ernsthaftigkeit zum Thema Klima, man kann auch gleichzeitig depressiv über die Klimakatastrophe sein und sich über gutes Wetter freuen. Was brächte es, wenn Wetterreporter bei Sonnenschein schlechte Laune verbreiten? Ja, makroökologisch ist das schlecht, aber wenn man von nichts anderem spricht wird das Resultat nicht ein Abwenden der Katastrophe sein sondern ein Absatzanstieg für Antidepressiva

@melsdung @sixtus der Punkt ist, es ist einfach der falsche Ort. Das wäre als würdest du vom Kiosk Besitzer verlangen, jedem der Kippen kauft ein schlechtes Gewissen einzureden (überspitzt dargestellt um einen Punkt zu machen). Der wesentlich effektivere Ansatz war hier, politisch die Akzeptanz des Rauchens systematisch zurück zu drängen. Eine ähnliche Verantwortungsverteilung sehe ich hier auch

@melsdung @sixtus der Kioskbesitzer hat nirgends was draufgeklebt, er verkauft Packungen die nach viel Hickhack und entgegen massivem Lobbyismus von den Herstellern umgestaltet werden mussten. Ich bin ja komplett bei euch, dass es ein Kontextualisierungsversagen in den Medien gibt, aber der WETTERBERICHT ist wirklich das letzte Glied in der Kette, das erwarte ich an komplett anderen Stellen.

The trouble with "enshittification", apart from the misuse of the word everywhere, is that platforms don't start off "good/useful" and then "enshittify". They start off as skinner boxes that give out rewards and end up as skinner boxes that have stopped giving out rewards. It is very silly to believe that the skinner box in its initial state is benevolent.

@tomw I have two issues with that. First, enshittification does not placate beginning platforms as benevolent, just as user focused (which they are, to attract usage). Second, the term is (to my understanding) coined from the user perspective. That is, they don't enshittify, they get enshittified. It's important to distinguish between the product/platform and the Company behind it. From my view, platforms get enshittified by their owning companies, which reduces to just an observation of time.
