Generic weird nerd, queer and trans, and blade witch. I'll share various bladesmithing and other projects, but this will probably be 50% cat photos. Very sober

Sense of humor removed to make space for more facts about 1980s Toyotas

@BlackAzizAnansi move to 3d games because they were better for marketing even though they were often worse artistically
That was back around '96

Reminded of this feature of Roman architecture, and 1700s European milk parlour or cheese house architecture that I vaguely recall and am too tired to currently re-look into: The Roman villas would have an open air room inside the walls of the house, shaded by overhanging roofs, and there would also be pools of water. The combination of circulation, shade and water evaporation would keep it one of the coolest rooms in the building.
(Vague recollections, please link a good article if handy!)

Dangerous_beans,

@sinituulia from vague memory the traditional houses in Morocco and Iran were pretty cool to in this sort of design

Dangerous_beans,
@Dangerous_beans@aus.social avatar

@quixoticgeek @sinituulia yep. My opinion is that in most of Australia a well designed house should need basically no heating, and only minor cooling, but that's not how we build the.

The local places are out of the blade steel I like, but there's a place in the US that stocks it. Shipping is a pain in the arse, but it's flat rate so it becomes reasonable if i order a few meters...

I was thinking the other day how police forces in western societies are an example of scope creep. Which causes a lot of problems
They started as a way of recovering stolen property*, and additional duties have been added on over the last few hundred years

Having people trained to turn up to accidents and organise things is probably useful, but they don't need guns or powers to arrest people
Our current society needs people trained in de-escalating family violence situations, but that needs a specific set of values that police aren't chosen for
Likewise with detective stuff

If you listen to them police officers don't become cops to do a lot of this public service stuff and resent having to do it. I think people who are willing to do that stuff are discouraged because they don't want to be cops

Anyway, that's why the organisation needs to be scrapped and anything important reorganised

*I should explicitly note that the concept of property here often included slaves

I think it's really important for us trans women, especially us white ones, to learn about how womanhood has been used in other systems of oppression. The roles of white women in upholding white supremacy, richer women in class structures.
These are patterns of behaviour that I don't think we should recreate

We come to womanhood from a different place to cis women. This gives us a different perspective to build from in finding better ways to be women
I've heard multiple cis women talk about learning about womanhood from the trans women in their lives

Basically if you're a white trans woman look up some Black women's critiques of white womanhood and ask yourself if you really want to do that shit

So we have sisyphean tasks and herculean tasks, which suggests there should be some others
Cassandrean task: it'll obviously end in tears but no one believes you
Pandorean task: it'll cause all sorts of problems but you do it anyway
Sapphean task: sweet mother, you're too gay and cannot do it
