I have a mountain of ironing to do and none interest to do so. Would you, for morale reasons, look at this set of Edwardian underwear I made a little while ago? Now with cats!

A more posed but nonetheless lovely photo, wherein she is now wearing a black corset also. It has wheat brown embroidered flossing at the front, is a snug shape reaching up to her mid bust, and flares out significantly at the hip. The shape is quite distinct for late Victorian or early Edwardian corsets. She is also wearing a pair of black shoes that make her calves look absolutely fantastic, shapely, muscled and slender. She is looking off to the right, in profile. There is a large pink ribbon in her wig, and she looks rather lively despite being far more bony than the Edwardian era would have found best.
A back view, mid step and turn. Here you can see what the Edwardian silhouette is really about: Hip padding! There is an adorable little ivory pillow contraption with small yellow flowers and a cute ruffle on the edges of it. It is tied about the waist and under the corset, further emphasising what could at a glance be determined to be rather wide hips. Truly the waist to hip ratio is quite significant with the padding added! It all looks reasonably in proportion because fashion is weird. There is more embroidery at the back of the corset, showing hints of the mysterious placing of boning to make the back and bust take the jutted out shape familiar from more dressed up Edwardian vintage photographs.

Idly thinking about keffiyeh and where people are buying them from. While it's been part of resistance fashion here since the 1970s and people have thus owned them, surely there must have been a massive spike recently with everybody protesting. I got mine from the thrift shop over 10 years ago (I have so many scarves, it's an entire hoard) but I kinda doubt they're just on sale in "normal" fast fashion chain stores. How do you clothe all of Malmรถ showing up to protest in a sea of keffiyeh?

sinituulia,
@sinituulia@eldritch.cafe avatar

It's not really that important but the logistics of a mass of people are interesting, any one single simple thing when multiplied with hundreds of thousands all at once gets really complicated and really weird.
I wonder if there's been a bunch of enterprising internet vendors just fully getting all of their stock bought up all at once. Is everybody going to keep theirs? Were any of those made in Palestine and supporting the people there, or is there a factory in Pakistan churning them out?

sinituulia,
@sinituulia@eldritch.cafe avatar

I don't have any conclusions here except free Palestine, don't just toss yours if you got one, fuck Amazon etc. and I personally think they look really neat and am happy to see so many people wearing them and protesting. Yeah.

@zdl I am somehow extremely not surprised. ๐Ÿ˜

Edit: also just clicking through, heck do those large chiffon versions look nice on those modelled product photos that were probably stolen from somebody's instagram account

Thinking about the Extremely Subtle And Understated Symbolism For Fertility painting again (Cookmaid with Still Life of Vegetables and Fruit, c.1620โ€“5, Sir Nathaniel Bacon)
All the lovingly and painstakingly crafted cabbages. The lovely bosom-forward lass holding that pumpkin? All the erect carrots? The shape of the wreath? So subtle! Incredible. ๐Ÿ˜†

sinituulia,
@sinituulia@eldritch.cafe avatar

I keep laughing at it in good humour, but honestly those are some damn well painted and aesthetic cabbages. ๐Ÿ˜ถ

sinituulia,
@sinituulia@eldritch.cafe avatar

The trees in the background on the other hand? Just fully phoning it in at that point, very much disinterested in vegetation smaller than a monstrous cabbage, really bad at trees, or in possession of some really weird trees? Who can say

@Uraael It's amusing to me that the artist here could have fully just gone for the Renaissance tradition of unrobed or barely dressed figures randomly writhing, but somehow managed to make this on the surface level quite innocent depiction just so incredibly thirsty!

sinituulia,
@sinituulia@eldritch.cafe avatar

@sewblue It's such a good painting, perhaps not in the way the artist intended! But it's one of my absolute favourites, truly just magnificently silly

And in further cat news: Woke up this morning at six because drinking water is a scam, walked past the cat tree, did a double take, and then went to get my phone for some bad photos of this dual nap situation.

Thinking about . I already decided not to watch this January because of Israel and things have only gotten worse since. It's deeply hilarious to say "it's not political" - Kalush Orchestra and the very heart-warming and deserved audience votes landslide victory for Stefania, anyone?

I won't be watching, but shove it all in the bin and set it on fire if everybody doesn't give zero fucking points to whatever professional overproduced soulless trash Israel puts up this year!

sinituulia,
@sinituulia@eldritch.cafe avatar

@zdl Always has been.

Also I'd never heard this one, the lyrics are extremely clever! I wonder if they managed to translate those any way accurately. The song itself is very catchy.

sinituulia,
@sinituulia@eldritch.cafe avatar

@zdl I feel like it's a grand tradition of Eurovision that people generally hate what the judges do and disagree with them. There's always talk about who the judges are and what their motivations are!

As per usual they were only somewhat interested in the very expensive cat tree, apart from Pรถrri who is now lounging in it, but thrilled with the extremely cheap new cat toys and the cardboard box the tree came in.

Today I awoke to three cats on me.
That's quite a lot of cat, you may think, and you would be correct, it is quite a lot of cat. Especially if the deranged orange one won't stop trying to lick your neck and face and you have to try to dislodge him without disturbing the cat on your chest, while the third one that was on your legs makes his approach to crawl onto your chest also, and they might start a fight right there if the orange cat dislodging process annoys the both of them

Sometimes Kerv will be having a deep sleep and start having a very vivid dream, often yowling in anger and fear, kicking wildly. Then when I gently wake him up, he'll crowd into my neck or arms and attempt to give me the bathing of a lifetime.

I often do wonder, what do cats have nightmares about?

sinituulia,
@sinituulia@eldritch.cafe avatar

Like. If he'd be afraid for himself, he'd be seeking comfort? But instead he's reassuring himself, or me, that I'm fine, and attempting to take care of me?
Is he afraid of something happening to me? What is going on in that little kitty head of his

A quick jaunt into familiarising yourself with the assorted keyboard shortcuts to your software when a cat tramples across the keys at an inopportune time and hides the entire UI with a series of complex and simultaneous key presses it takes you a good ten minutes to then reverse engineer

The little sir! The littlest and bravest of sirs! He's been afraid of mom and at his worst anxiety would hide for a full five hours or more after mom visited, just in case. Last week he was sitting outside of his cave in the bedroom while mom was over, but then went into hiding again.

But now! The little sir! I was just scribbling a postcard and mom said "Look" and I was like "Look at what, it's just the... cats..." as I noticed the little sir just loitering next to me! Out and about!

I would also like, on this day of low executive function, tell you about fun machine sound music that makes the brain go beep boop! I have most of the discography on a playlist I've titled Serotonin because it's just very good soundscape to mindlessly getting shit done.

"Neurodivergent music to scratch the itch in your brain.
Inspired by 90s techno, Frank Klepacki, Perturbator, and Mega Drive, among other things."

@Uraael I can both appreciate the desire for the artists to take creative licence with their own songs but also feel the jarring disconnect when they throw a jazzy little scale change in there for funsies. ๐Ÿ˜†
I can play back entire songs in my head almost exactly and know when there's something different, though it doesn't always bother me.

I have put the linked video onto the list of things I will look at properly when I have the brain for it, wherein it might live for quite some time but I'll eventually get to it! But I did take a peek and I feel like Gridwalker definitely also takes influence from old games. I'm a bit too young to remember Atari, but my brother did play a bunch of emulated games on the PC and do remember those. ๐Ÿ˜ถ
