Generic weird nerd, queer and trans, and blade witch. I'll share various bladesmithing and other projects, but this will probably be 50% cat photos. Very sober

Sense of humor removed to make space for more facts about 1980s Toyotas

Your racist friend is not going to be racist in a way they think you will call them out on. They will phrase things in a way they feel has deniability
This means you won't see your friends being obviously racist
If you want to understand racism you need to listen to those affected (though demanding that people affected by racism always explain themselves is also a racist action. sit down, shut up, and listen)
And if you expect it to be obvious to you when white people are being racist you will end up covering for racists

Maybe it might need to be explained; very few people who support liberation for Palestine support Hamas. We understand that groups like Hamas are a logical outcome of oppression, and actually addressing that sort of violence requires addressing the systems of oppression.

You cannot focus on a single event, you need to understand the wider history of oppression and violence. That includes the Nabka in the 40s, European history of antisemitism and colonialism, and Zionism.
You also need to look at the current power imbalance, between a besieged population and a modern military. Those with more power in the situation bear the greater responsibility to actually fix the situation.

This violence isn't going to stop when Hamas is dismantled, it stops when all the people in the region are free
That might be an unrealistic goal, but that's the only solution

If you object to seeing people asking for help maybe you should put more effort into creating a world where people have what they need? Instead of asking those with power in a space to remove less fortunate people
The impulse to ask mods to be ban people for asking for help is the same impulse as asking police to clear places where homeless people are camping

I've decided this knife is good enough to sell.
Small prep knife / petty sort of blade. 26c3 carbon steel around 62rc
Handle is casurina, spacer is blackened w2 steel
It weighs 120ish grams, blade is ~130mm, total length is ~240mm. Balance point is just in front of the handle where you would hold it in a pinch grip.
It has a thicker blade, makes it stiffer when cutting squishy things but it affects how it cuts firmer foods like carrots. The forged texture around the spine makes it look a little wonky, I'll try to get a photo of the edge
Aud$225 plus postage
Let me know if you're interested, or have questions

A view of the left side, showing the difference in the forged pattern
A view of the spine showing how the forged texture fades into polished steel at the tip, and the shape of the handle
A view of the handle, showing the red and brown details of the wood grain

I was thinking the other day how police forces in western societies are an example of scope creep. Which causes a lot of problems
They started as a way of recovering stolen property*, and additional duties have been added on over the last few hundred years

Having people trained to turn up to accidents and organise things is probably useful, but they don't need guns or powers to arrest people
Our current society needs people trained in de-escalating family violence situations, but that needs a specific set of values that police aren't chosen for
Likewise with detective stuff

If you listen to them police officers don't become cops to do a lot of this public service stuff and resent having to do it. I think people who are willing to do that stuff are discouraged because they don't want to be cops

Anyway, that's why the organisation needs to be scrapped and anything important reorganised

*I should explicitly note that the concept of property here often included slaves

there's an interesting pattern in political moderates* where they seem hyper focused on party politics and the people involved, rather than thinking about the wider systems of power that are happening. Seems like that's an evolved adaption of the system; by creating this noise distracts people from actual analysis of the wider systems. it's politics as the circus part of "bread and circuses"
it provides a great emotional distraction from the shit we are dealing with; there are good people and bad people, it all works at a personal level, there's a clear emotionally understandable goal
it's definitely much easier to deal with than the actual reality of the situation

*people who claim to want progress but don't seem to want to radically change the power structures. usually strongly emotionally invested in the less conservative major party in a political system

Remember gamergate? Hopefully not

But still, there was a group of people there who were deceived into thinking that it really was about ethics in games journalism. These people were actually quite important for the harassment aspect, because they provided cover for the misogynistic shit-stains who wanted to harass women.
If you care about an issue there will be other people who care about that issue who are also using it to push other agendas. And some who don't care but see it as a useful talking point.

This means that you need to look at the actions of seeming allies, and ask if you agree with their other goals and their actions.
And maybe this means you need to not talk about the issue until other things are resolved. If you talk about the cover issue they will take that as support for their harassment, and so will the people they are harassing
Sometime misogyny is more important than ethics in game journalism

I think it's really important for us trans women, especially us white ones, to learn about how womanhood has been used in other systems of oppression. The roles of white women in upholding white supremacy, richer women in class structures.
These are patterns of behaviour that I don't think we should recreate

We come to womanhood from a different place to cis women. This gives us a different perspective to build from in finding better ways to be women
I've heard multiple cis women talk about learning about womanhood from the trans women in their lives

Basically if you're a white trans woman look up some Black women's critiques of white womanhood and ask yourself if you really want to do that shit

I wonder how much of the apparent improvement in people from mental health interventions is just them getting sick of having to deal with all the bullshit of doctors and we just stop interacting with them?

Handforged prep knife with ironbark handle. $200 plus postage in Australia
The blade is a high quality carbon steel around 62rc (26c3 specifically). It's a simple one piece recycled ironbark handle, quite thin and would suit people with smaller hands.
The overall blade is very light, ~100g. Balance point is just in front of the handle. ~13cm blade
Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you some more details and photos

A shot showing the left side, very similar to the right side. The author's makers mark is visible above the heel of the blade
The knife with a tape measure held up to it. The blade is about 13cm, the total length is 27cm
A photo showing the fine edge of the knife
