Finished #MyLiberationNotes, an extremely satisfying #kdrama. The main characters are all so loveable in their frailty and humanity, their longings all worn for us all to see. Nobody has it easy and there are tears to be shed but the endings are satisfying for them all. Top-10 drama for sure.
Ugh, starting out a new week with limited energy/ambition. I chose to use Instacart instead of battling the freshly cold weather for Costco run. Feeling very dizzy for no known reason. Trying to find the mojo to clean up the pile of potting soil that I dumped on my living room carpet, knowing full well that my cheap vacuum has very limited suction power. At least I found the gumption to rearrange one bedroom Kallax shelf so that it's no longer blocking my heat source. I'll be needing that heat.
@liztai Thanks! I'm not really sick but I'm also not particularly well. I'm glad that I didn't drive back and forth to Costco in this haze. My Instacart person was really happy to get an extra cash tip on arrival. There's slightly less selection when getting things delivered but certainly enough to fill the gap.
@EllenInEdmonton yea that was me yesterday to. Like not too sick to take off from work so u push on and then by the end of the day you regret not taking off kinda day 😂 I hope u feel better soon. Maybe u need a long sleep!

Day 28: something you want to see in more dramas
Since I'm only watching #kdrama and at least 2/3s of them involve some sort of a romance, is it too much to ask that they include good kissing?!?! It would be challenging to choose a worst kiss. So many of them involve the leads just putting their lips in the same place, often while staring up at the sky! I can probably count a handful of good kisses in all of the shows that I've watched.
I saw very high ratings for #MyDearest so I hesitated about upgrading my Viki pass to watch it. I almost quit during the first 3 episodes which seemed to be about very ordinary life for young ladies and lords in the Joseon era. Suddenly, in E4, it became VERY interesting, with Joseon being invaded by Genghis Khan. Apparently, the inspiration for the series was Gone With The Wind, which makes sense. Anyway, I'm on episode 6 and will probably watch pretty relentlessly this week. #kdrama
@kdrama End of the Year Drama Challenge Day 2: Favourite actress discovered in 2023 Kim Mi-Kyung and Kim Young-Ok For me, one of the most amazing aspects of #kdrama is all of the supporting characters and their stories. These 2 women add SO much depth to all of the shows where they play eomeoni/mom, Ajumma/auntie, halmeoni/grandma, and Court Lady Favourite show for Kim Mi-Kyung: Healer Favourite show for Kim Young-Ok: Hometown Cha Cha Cha
Thanks to @jillithd@whoosh@kdrama I'm going to try this. End of the Year Drama Challenge Day 1: Since when have you been watching dramas? I joined a Discord watchparty group 2023/04/15, started slowly with 1-2 episodes week of It's Okay to Not Be Okay. After I returned from a road trip in late June, I started watched more and more shows as well as taking Duolingo #hangeul lessons. Now, #kdrama is a major, full-time obsession and my Korean listening comprehension is growing exponentially.
@sirsean@whoosh@kdrama Yes. Since I've heard there's a lot of overlap between Korean and Japanese, I may eventually attempt to learn some basic Japanese words and phrases but I'll be happy to accumulate survival Korean, for sure.
Duolingo is great for learning Hangeul. I just finished the Rookie section yesterday & at the end of that they started just saying sentences without showing the words. I feel that helps the listening a lot.
I also have used Drops for learning vocab - you have to listen well there.
Taking class through the Korean Cultural center has been great. The teacher just started speaking in Korean, so we had to listen.
Huge relief because I tested positive for #COVID this evening, on my third day of symptoms and I got through the 811 nursing assessment as well as another nursing and then doctor assessment to get a #Paxlovid Rx. Perhaps it will even get to my pharmacy to be filled before closing tonight.
Making #kimchi is very worthwhile, especially since it's expensive to buy. I start a fresh batch every 2-3 months and I wind up with a 2-litre jar and 1-2 small jars to share. It's so easy to customize. I love it with daikon, carrots, apple, garlic, and ginger. I got vegan fish sauce since I have vegetarian recipients. This method is quick and easy. The traditional Korean method is painstaking and slow. https://www.feastingathome.com/how-to-make-kimchi/
I'm at a point where my life is mainly alternating between #sewing and #kdrama, with a weekly sewing class and back-to-back 3-day sewing retreats. In between all of that activity and my evening job, I'm just watching nonstop K-dramas to decompress. There are worse ways to live, TBH!
Wow! It sounds like a power station near my place exploded right near the start of my online English class tonight, knocking out power to my computer and WiFi. It took me ages to get set up again on my laptop and personal hotspot and then, I needed to get a one-time password to sign back into zoom but couldn't reach anyone at my school in Toronto. When I finally signed back in, the students were all still there and communicating with each other in English! Impressive. #motivation
@AnnaAnthro Me too, but I think these things just blow sometimes. Happy to report that my power came back on about 5 minutes before my class ended and my computer/TV are both fully functional. I didn't want to do the laptop/single-screen thing for the whole night!
Great news about my #Ortlieb panniers and my @ternbicycles When I took them into my #LocalBikeShop, I just needed to nudge the panniers into place and they fit fine! What a beautiful grocery-shopping vehicle I have now! #BikeTooter#YEGBike
@jonobie@EllenInEdmonton I spent my first year in K-Dramadom watching every. single. historical. drama. available on Netflix, Viki and Kocowa. I’ve watched them all.
@AnnaAnthro
Yes, there's backlighting in a few of the scenes. Episode 4 was the funniest and then I got frustrated that it was mostly silly romance/triangle.This week's episodes were pretty amazing with a lot more reference to past lives and a lot of the earlier scenes made more sense. It helps to watch it with a pack!
It's a good day. After a quiet, smoky day at home yesterday, I started in #kimchi, made aloo palak with eggs for breakfast, watched the second-last episode of #MyLovelyLiar with my #kdrama peeps in 3 countries, and now, it's time to finish the kimchi and get the laundry done.
I'll start yoga strong classes this week as well as a #French discussion group. #hangul learning is going quite well. I made a Quizlet set with a lot of common words/phrases in K-dramas. #sewing coming up on Wednesday.
@liztai
Tomorrow is the grand finale. I think that the ending is already a lot more satisfying than most #kdrama endings. It's just been the right kind of show at the right time for me.
@EllenInEdmonton I can understand that! Speaking of the right show and the right time I was surprised to like a low angst, single mum with a kid romamce series. Kids in shows usually annoy me, but I love a male lead who is actively wooing a single mum and is a good dad to her bratty kid 😆
