I got my first DSLR at the end of 2012. The last time I had taken photography seriously was about a decade prior to that (I was more focused on programming and computer networking than visual arts). Back then, I would do almost daily walks around the town I lived in and would usually bring my camera just in case I saw something I wanted to photograph. It definitely helped train my eye for good photos, but in retrospect I probably should have opted for something lighter than a DSLR and telephoto lens lol. Quite often on my walks I would be followed by the local ravens. They had already been used to me walking around long before I had the camera. Sometimes I would try to feed them or just sit and watch them drop walnuts in the road so cars would run them over. Although they never behaved too oddly around me. After I had started walking with my camera I noticed they would follow me with much more intent. At first I thought it was out of curiosity. They probably saw the glint of light off the lens and wanted to check it out. After a while though I could swear that sometimes they were trying to show off or pose. One even saw me take a picture, and then flew in a circle around me, landed, and then caw'd at me. They also started following me around in groups and for weirdly long distances. Whereas before if they followed me it was only one or two and just for a little bit and probably coincidental. They're very strange and fascinating creatures and I miss my weird entourage. I wonder if they noticed my absence after I moved?

I've been obsessed with silhouettes since 1st grade. I remember our teacher sat us all down one day with a light on one side of our face and a piece of paper hung up on the other side. She then drew the outline of our shadow on the paper and we got to cut the outline out. I was, and still am, fascinated with the idea of using light to "draw" a person's form.

I used to go for late night walks a lot in my mid 20s. There's a certain stillness that comes with it that I find calming. The soft distant glow of the street lights acting as a brief islands within a sea of shadows.

The first time I got lost in the woods I was about 7 years old or so. Everything looked the same and I started getting a sense of vertigo as I looked up into the canopy above. At first I was panicked and afraid nobody would find me. Eventually I found the road and went "well, I found myself" and the fear left me.

Went for a walk with the hubby today. The fog was amazing. Glad we got there when we did cause the fog didn't last more than about 10 minutes.

all shots taken on my canon S100

Taken in 2016 from an old apartment window. I used to watch the street traffic all the time. Usually was better than most TV shows lol

Went out to the lake with my broken s100 for some fun shots and then I very quickly found out that I hadn't charged it's battery in a long while. I managed a few shots before it completely died lol

Black and white photo of a lake. A part of a dock can be seen in the bottom right corner. Across the lake are soft hills and a thick forest.

Not a normal post today. Been using my epson printer (ET-2750) for photos around the house and xmas gifts. I noticed there's a slight blueish hue to all of them (it's a little more subtle in person, my phone is exaggerating the blue here). Which is weird because none of the stickers I make using the same printer have this issue. I'm fine with the slight blueness for my house and my mom and grandma sure won't care. However, I'm considering selling prints online and don't feel comfortable with that for customers. Is it a setting I'm missing or an issue with the paper itself?

It's interesting to go back 10 years and seeing what kind of subjects I chose to photograph. My approach has changed a lot over the years, but the things I find funny have not lol

This is a really popular bridge and waterfall in my town. Many many people take photos of the waterfall year round. I myself probably have a few dozen shots of it. Every time I go by it with my camera, I try to take a shot that I've never done before. It can get boring to revisit a place with the same creative mindset. Always find new framing/composition/angles. It'll keep your mind sharp and help you appreciate the familiar in a new light.

Also, the looks I get when taking a shot like this: priceless lol

I was planning on doing a bunch of art (including some photography) over the weekend but I woke up with a horrible fever on Saturday. I'm finally able to function, tho I'm still recovering.

Here's a shot I'm not super fond of that I took earlier this summer (If I hated it I wouldn't post it, but it's okay I guess lol). I love exploring around Deception Pass despite my fear of heights. Every time I meet someone who hasn't walked it, I make it a point to go with them. Seeing their reactions is always interesting. To me, it's just another daily sight from my childhood, but to them it's a beautiful monument to human ingenuity. (Side note: I also find it endlessly funny when people from desert states like Texas are like "wow it's so green and wet here!"...well yeah, it's an island lol)
