Anyway, I wrote a thing about why I think AI assistants are a doomed class of device. Ping this back to me in 5 years when everyone has abandoned phones and has a little gizmo with an annoying personality stapled to their shoulder. http://www.suppertime.co.uk/blogmywiki/2024/05/the-terminal-problem-with-ai-assistants/

A bit of from on a Sunday morning, just for a change.

My son bought this Neck deep album nine years ago and it remained sealed until this morning, when we cracked it open. I feel the same way about sealed as I feel about sealed : pointless.

I'm a music fan, not a record collector.

Quick tip...

If you have drilled a hole in the wrong place, paint around the outside of the hole with yellow paint, and the hole will get magically filled in.

Doesn't work for you ?

No, me neither, but our council seems to think this is the way to fix potholes.

All this AI stuff is confusing if you grew up on a farm.

Only farm kids, looking at a field of cows sired by a prize bull, will get this.

Extelec, (edited )
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@JennyList I agree. Not a farm kid, but I was involved with a company that bred pigs. So the confusion is real.

Honeysuckle trim and gazebo repair this weekend (if it isn't raining). Started today, managed to clear back so we can again see our

Three dogs rest here, because they all loved it under this honeysuckle bush.

Old broken gazebo post needs digging out of the concrete it was set in 20+ years ago, I'm not looking forward to this.

Concrete dog lots of twigs, leaves and some stones with moss.

You receive a call on your phone.
The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraud.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

Your phone buzzes. You tap the notification This is what you see.

Still think it is a scam?

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@Edent Id go with yes, its a scam, Why does it need your passcode if you are already logged in to their app.

New project PCBs arrived so I now have a small Pi Picow phone, the Pi-Tele-Cow.

This is a Full stack* develpment. I'm writing or modifying all the code from UDP upwards.

SIP RDP etc..

Currently can make and receive calls via SIP (with errors)

This is being developed alongside the Farnsworths.

*Full Stack refers to my pile of unfinished projects.

Any similarity with any other logos is purely coincidental.

White 3d printed case on top of a circuit diagram. Blue PCB with 15 push buttons 0-9 * # answer and call clear

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@a2es Personally I wouldn't be that impressed. :)

SIP and SDP seam to "mostly" make sense. but I haven't really pushed to anything our side the local net yet. Ive still got errors when I cancel a call, and I need to sort the timers out. Then on to RTP.

My big problem with SIP is so much crap is hung off it. There really should have been a "phone protocol" rather than gluing functionality on top of SIP.

I still think my biggest challenge will be RTP Especially being limited to only WiFI

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@a2es Ill probably approach NAT traversal by pushing the server into the Cloud, It can't be a problem if it isn't there :)

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

@a2es Yes, I've been looking into that. Thanks..

Extelec,
@Extelec@mstdn.social avatar

Yay, one SIP timer working, more info sent to the display and a few bugs ironed out.

Now if I could only stop it crashing the WIFI access point when your decline a call :)

Me, on the subject of trying to make 1950s era telephone exchange equipment behave itself:

"The whole thing is essentially a pile of a million springs that all have to be exactly the right amount of springy"

Damnit.

Now I've got to count them to work out how many there actually are.

@marrold @lpbkdotnet no but interesting I've never seen that before.
