This unassuming late #80s JVC RC-N5 #boombox is surprisingly heavy and well made. It looks like a basic portable radio, but it has a secret #cassette deck built in!

I've obtained a Limited Manufacture Licence for some iconic music tracks to be released as an album of #synthwave and #synthpop cover versions on #vinyl #cassette and #minidisc

Now I just need to find some interested artists to join me in this ridiculous endeavour.

I sometimes navigate to my old family home on Google Maps, flip to StreetView and use the slider to go back to 2009.

There I see my dad in his white overalls, painting the outside of the house. His car and my mum's car sit on the driveway.

They're both still alive and well on StreetView. My mum has nagged my dad to take a week off from being a professional decorator to paint their house, and she's inside, doing some crafting project or other.

It's simultaneously comforting and heartbreaking.

Why? I love the format, I love the ritual, I love the analogue warmth, and I love introducing people to what tape sounds like on a really good #hifi deck. The fully serviced Sony 3 head Dolby S deck has a headphone socket, so you won't even need an amp or speakers.

Just a quick nod to the person (you know who you are) that blessed me with no less than seven direct messages last night, explaining to me in great detail that none of the cassette decks I've repaired are as good as the £3,000+ deck, widely regarded as the pinnacle of cassette deck design, and that I'm wasting my time with anything less then a Nakamichi Dragon.

For a minute I thought I'd quantum leaped back to Twitter in 2019.

Another vintage #cassette deck rescued from oblivion. This time it's the absolutely rock solid top of the range NAD 6155 from the late #80s. This was the one I wanted when I was 17, but I had to settle for the lowly 6220. I loved that thing ❤️

This is an order of magnitude better. Massive flywheel, huge dynamic range and the uncluttered industrial design that is one of the reasons I love NAD gear. First appearance of Play Trim that improves playback of pre-recorded cassettes.

She's a keeper.

I like to drive, fly or even just wander around on foot.
