But algorithms sometimes bring me wonderful music and wonderful people. The algorithm is the computer's best approximation of random encounters in the wide world.
Advertising is the problem. Commodifying people is the problem.

Casual thread about my antics today?

So some of my new plants from last year survived the winter... my favorite is this fire and ice critter, right up my alley

I pulled all my over winter compost and distributed it to my garden beds, tarped in, because it'll continue to break down until the second weekend in May when I'll start planting...

In the compost, I found dry whole roses. All of the ones (there were many) I'd given the former partner who moved out in January.
I'm sure that doesn't mean anything.

My herbs and walking onions are all coming back, and somehow my winter-dried herbs are actually pretty strong, so I'll be doing a harvest of all that soon 😂

@phildini They just kinda keep going, so I harvest the tops as needed for cooking through the summer, but never the base onions.

Just had a very serious conversation with my 12yo about not using fatphobic language even if they think they're being affectionate. Those are not slurs for them to reclaim, and being a straight sized person means everyone else will hear that language as particularly harmful and cutting!
They aren't trying to hurt anyone, they tell me.
Yeah, kid, I know, but kindness has to be intentional sometimes.

Whew. Being a parent. Sure is something.

In case you need an introduction to these six fiends.

First, there's Bailey, first of her mane, oldest and sweetest baby.
She's 15, and I've had her since she was 9mos old.
She... doesn't know what claws are. Definitely 100% cat/100% familiar

Next is Odin. He is bigger than you think. Even bigger than that.
He's the largest cat I've ever met who wasn't part maine coon, and he's heading for age 12. I've had him since he was about a year old.
Impossibly soft and very anxious, 100% thinks he's a people, 100% familiar still.
Facial expressions are his super power.

Third is Bear! This purevoid is so "no thoughts just vibes" that they practically made the category for him.
He has two modes. Screm outside a door (let me in/give me snakks) and turn into a sack of potatoes when snuggling.
He will do biscuits on anything, including cement.
He's uhhh we think about 8 now, or very close to, and he was at or about 4 when we got him from a rescue (owner surrender 😑).
100% cat, does not know what a familiar is but would lay on it

Number 4 is Hawke, who... may actually think she's a dog.
She's round and happy and wags her tail and will murder other cats but loves people so much she doesn't even care -how- you pet her, as long as you do.
She's also about 8, we've had her the same nearly 4 years.
She is 1000% sure that she's not only a person, but my weird beloved. So maybe also 1000% familiar in a creepy way.
(She's very smart, just not real mobile)

Number 5 is Hawke's... probably littermate? Merrell. The shelter thought they were bonded, so we adopted them together. The two were former alley cat ferals who both had a litter before the rescue.
They don't really like each other much, now that they have space!

Merrell is 100% cat, and still skittish (age 8ish, we've had her 4ish years), but she's kinda working on taming the dog?
She's very sweet but gets overstimulated easily. Loves to lay like this, though.

Technically, finally, there's Lapras.
She was about 7 months old when I rescued her from being an alley kitten early last August, and she ran up to me and snuggled my arm when I scooped her up.

She's 100% cat (but mostly made of mischief) and aspires to be a familiar. She's great at bossing all the other cats around. Odin needs it 😅
She looks like we let Bailey cook a little longer, and I found her while I was not sure how much longer Bailey would be with us 🥲

This is Timber, who is about 8, moved in with us last April and is ours now.
He's very very certain he's a big cat. The biggest cat. Maybe we could pick him up. Maybe we could snuggle.
