Apocalypse Bimbo, the only thing I'm selling is lived experience.

I tell ghost stories about the postmodern world, I write cyberpunk parables and like thinking about proper names in the digital world.

Please talk to me about the stories you tell yourself about the future.

In this world of pandemics, questionable governments and questionable choices in computing when we need to embrace degrowth, I find comfort at the moment in helping other folk when I can.

A bit like the metaphor of a butterfly causing a small flap that turns into a hurricane.

You never know quite how far small deeds can go. Help others when you can, it can be just a message of support. Or helping folks on to here.

It's all I can do. Rebel with small acts of kindness.

All those reading and contributing to ClimateDiary will know that questions of are central to what we are collectively trying to work through here.

This essay by Jag Bhalla, on "The Dark Origins of Optimism and its Current Cheerful Evils", is one of the best pieces I've ever read on this. Maybe the best (also many links). Enjoy.

"As Voltaire knew, optimism is often an elite-serving demon in disguise"

Long shot: anyone got any info on when the city of Wilmington (now incorporated into Los Angeles, it's a neighborhood) was dubbed "the heart of the harbor"? I see municipal signs that look like they're from 1950s-60s, but haven't turned anything up in searching yet (just started)

Today, Michael Gove will outline his proposals for dealing with the problem of short-term #holiday lets forcing locals out of residential areas in or near #tourist 'hot-spots'.

With some decrying such measures as anti-business & Gove's reputation for over-promising & under-delivering, its safe to say that his move to require planning for holiday let usage, will be unlikely to contribution to a resolution of the problem.

Really, this is what happens when homes are seen as (working) assets!

Isn't this the administration "passing the buck?"

Legislative can kicking?

Representative slight of hand?

Legislative legerdemain?
