A coop PvE game for two dads and three sons?
A shooter, preferably. Any recommendations, guys? The youngest lad is 10, so as little violence as possible. Thanks šŸ˜‰

My first thought was Borderlands 2, but 10 might be a bit young and it doesnā€™t really qualify as ā€œas little violence as possibleā€.

Maybe Deep Rock Galactic, or Vermintide 2? (Or Darktide but thatā€™s far more violent and itā€™s humans youā€™re killing.)

Earth Defense Force might be fun, too. Itā€™s very silly, the humor would probably land with a 10 year old.

Risk of Rain 2, maybe, also.

Others have already mentioned RoR and DRG; VT2 and Borderlands also have mods that support at least 8 and I think up to 16 players.

I think EDF is the only one that definitely doesnā€™t; I was mis-remembering how many can play that, I guess. Thought it was 5 or 6.

My current favorite ā€œmemorizableā€ method (obviously a random hash from a PW manager is still better) is to take a sentence of moderate complexity that includes the name of the service youā€™re signing up for in it, and use the first letter of each word as your password.

For example, ā€œWhen I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is go to pawb.social.ā€

Password would be ā€œWIwuitm,tftIdigtps.ā€

Easy to remember, immune to dictionary attacks, and you get a (mostly) unique password for each service, so stolen passwords can only access that one thing.

Edit: To be clear, the value is that you can use the same sentence everywhere, switching out the name of the service to generate semi-unique passwords for each service. Obviously someone analyzing your passwords would be able to figure out the pattern, but thatā€™s basically never what actually happens; itā€™s more likely someone gets 1 password and tries your email address + that PW in a variety of services, which this is strong against.

Itā€™s surprisingly easy to memorize. The sentence basically acts as a mnemonic device to remember the password, and itā€™s a lot easier to memorize a sentence that makes sense to you than to memorize something like ā€œTr0ub4d0r&8ā€.

Never have I ever... Furry +18 edition! (art by shinigamigirl)

The rules are simple:

  • Everyone who's a furry and reads this thread needs to add a comment. Write about something that you haven't done yourself, even though it might be common, you're interested in it, or curious about it. For example:

"Never have I ever had sex in a fursuit"

Anyone who has done it, will leave a reply to that comment with the text "*drinks*" or similar. Make sure to check back in later to see new messages and reply to them.

You can also reply to each other to ask questions if there's something you're curious about.

Feel free to bring up both SFW or NSFW topics. Please be respectful and don't bring up NHIE statements that are malicious, political or divisive.

((By the way, thank you for your suggestions on the ideas thread for conversations topic the other day!))

Drinks I met my wife online; we never went on something Iā€™d describe as a RL ā€˜dateā€™ until after we were already marriedā€¦ I donā€™t think thereā€™s anything wrong with never having been on one. You arenā€™t missing a lot, to be honest!

What is the meaning of so many posts referencing ā€œRuleā€? Like it will be a meme post but one of the words is replaced with the word ā€œRuleā€

You're referring to c/196. There's one rule in the community: if you visit, you must post something before you leave, so all of the posts are announcing that they're posting in accordance with the rule.

The word seat will still be a word with any one letter removed

"Seats" also works, if you allow acronyms (SATs).

I just searched up "art" here on kbin, looking for some nice drawings, instead I got furry porn that wasn't marked as nsfw :(.

I, a furry, keep getting blasted with hardcore non-furry porn that isn't marked as nsfw. I'm sure we'll both survive. Block the magazine and move on.

Stumbled upon someone who seemed completely opposed to the idea of federation and the fediverse. Like, if you are opposed to federation then why are you on here? They seemed to be pretty confused about what the fediverse is all about and likely joined due to misleading advertisements.

I think you just answered your own question. Those are probably folks who saw people talking about it on Reddit, and came to check it out without knowing how it worked. They're also probably part of the subset who will not be here for long.

Meta (owner of Facebook, Instagram & WhatsApp) is joining the fediverse very soon and we have to seriously prepare. This isn't a theoretical scenario anymore.

"One of Metaā€™s top executives showed employees a preview of the companyā€™s upcoming Twitter competitor during a companywide meeting today" via https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/8/23754304/instagram-meta-twitter-competitor-threads-activitypub

Well, I hate this. The whole reason for coming over here in the first place (for me) was to get away from as much corporate influence as possible. This is the last thing I want to see.
