Probably unpopular opinion, but I think these types of protests are actually pretty effective. They make news headlines every time, and people talk about them, and they aren’t hurting anyone… I just feel like they could be more efficient at delivering their message. It seems like “They’re trying to destroy things!” shocks people more than “We’re destroying the entire world while we ignore climate change!”, and drawing attention to that, and how none of these works of art or historical relics really matter in the face of what’s coming if we don’t change course, would draw a more apt parallel between what they’re doing and the message they’re trying to convey.

I have been watching the Prince of Persia game, but I would absolutely have glazed right over its release while entranced by Hades II, so yes, I agree with you, it’s a very smart decision on their part.

(Also, can I just say, holy shit is Hades II some good value. It’s basically two games worth of content in one. More than twice the size of Hades I. Utter insanity.)

Oh, no! I only have 7 hours until I have to get up! I’ll be too tired tomorrow and have an awful day! I really hope I don’t have trouble falling asleep because I’m stressed about that, then wake up every hour in a cold sweat because I’m dreaming I missed the appointment!

I work at a company whose entire business model is providing QA to other companies. I work directly with some very large, public companies, and some smaller ones. Almost all of them have some form of dedicated in-house QA, which we supplement.

I don’t know exactly when 196 became an unofficial furry hotspot, but I’m here for it.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

The percentage of furries that are queer is definitely higher than the total population average; I wonder if the percentage of queer folk who are furries is also similarly higher.

And here I thought there was some cultural context I was missing, like French people only getting haircuts once a year.

I find this just so completely impossible to understand. At least with crimes like murder or burglary, I can understand where the motivation came from, but this? What could they possibly gain by doing this, other than the thrill of destroying something beautiful, or the knowledge that they’re making other people sad? How is that at all fulfilling?

I honestly feel that people who get their kicks from this sort of thing just have no place in modern society.

It’s not a problem of there not being enough homes for everyone, it’s that the vacant homes are not being made available to people who want / need them. There are far more than enough homes. In fact there’s about 26 vacant homes for every homeless person in the US.

I hope so too, but I also hope that the margin is thin as a wire, and ideally, that voter turnout on both sides sets record lows. And I hope it results in better candidates in the future, and maybe a 3rd and 4th party emerging to fill the voter gaps. I don’t think any of this will happen, but it’d be nice.

KoboldCoterie,
@KoboldCoterie@pawb.social avatar

Yeah, so see, this is the problem.

  • Low turnout = they don’t need to care about you.
  • for them = nothing they’ve done is bad enough to lose your vote, so they might as well keep on doing it.
  • Voting for someone else = voting for Trump, even if it’s 3rd party.

Honestly, I’d like to be able to use my vote to take 1 vote away from a candidate. Just count me as -1 for Trump. Let it send the message that I don’t like any candidate enough to vote for them; the only thing I care about is that it isn’t him.

Much better than Sandra did, to be honest. The crowd was clearly into it and she just spent the whole time looking wholly uncomfortable and seemingly not understanding what was going on.

For what it’s worth, friend group B A seems much more interesting. I would like to get to know them.

Edit: I meant the lizards. I want to get to know them. They seem chill.

That’s an interesting point / question. Decomposition is living organisms (insects, bacteria, microbes, etc.) breaking down the thing. Obviously we have tons of those inside us, but could the space suit keep them alive? For how long?

This ended up leading me down a bit of a google rabbit hole, but this answer seems reasonable to me (though I don’t have the background to verify it):

I am assuming in spacesuit here, on the face (lit side) of the moon. Bodily degradation involves much more than external fungi and bacteria.

Cells that receive no oxygen or nutrients die. We talk of such tissue death as dry gangrene when it affects extremities, such as fingers, feet, etc. However, we also recognize gangrenous bowel, etc. which results in tissue necrosis.

Such necrotic cell death is the consequence of acute disruption of cellular metabolism, leading to ATP depletion, ion dysregulation, mitochondrial and cellular swelling, activation of degradative enzymes, plasma membrane failure and cell lysis [1]

Lysis is messy and wet. Combined with the fluids in our bodies, what one would end up with is a mushy, smelly degraded body, not a preserved body. For a while, anaerobic bowel bacteria would flourish (which smell terrible).

Add to this the extremes of temperature (253° F in the sun and -243° F in the dark.) The suit would have lost it’s heating and cooling mechanisms, so the body would alternately spend 14 days in the heat and 14 days in the freezing cold depending exactly where it was (lets say the equator of the moon.) These freeze/bake cycles would further contribute to degradation through ice crystal formation and thawing.

Eventually, because there was no new substrate, degradation would come to a halt, but I’m not sure at what stage this would be. I assume, though, there would be a vast difference between a mummified body (done by dehydration) and a body left to degrade in a spacesuit.

Local officials found that hundreds of cafés and e-sports venues in Yiwu were offering maid café-style services, with female servers forced to kneel to serve tea, massage male customers, and shout “Welcome home, my master!” to anyone entering.

The procuratorate brought a public interest lawsuit to a local court, arguing that such services “belittle and damage women’s rights to human dignity.” They also said that some local businesses had failed to take measures to protect their female staff from sexual harassment.

[…]

“Maid cafés have been a symbolic space where women are defaulted to being the subject of sexual exploitation,” Chen said. “The key to solving this problem should be educating the public to respect women.”

Sounds like banning this might not be such a bad thing? Stricter regulation and severe penalties for violators would maybe help instead, but I don’t know enough about Chinese culture to really be able to comment on whether that would even be effective. At least taking steps to make sure this doesn’t continue is a net benefit, I think.

Documentaries often include recreations of events, such as historical events that weren’t filmed. It’s usually noted as being a recreation or re-enactment. If AI-created images are used instead and are noted as being such, I don’t really see the problem, assuming the images are curated to depict the scene accurately.

House’s Ukraine, Israel aid package gains Biden's support as Speaker Johnson fights to keep his job (apnews.com)

President Joe Biden said Wednesday he strongly supports a proposal from Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson to provide aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, sending crucial bipartisan support to the precarious effort to approve $95 billion in funding for the U.S. allies this week....

Disney+ could introduce linear cable-style streaming channels featuring key franchises

Netflix is reportedly planning to introduce linear cable-style streaming channels to enhance user engagement and increase app usage time.

What? Is Disney’s content going to be shown on Netflix in this format? Is it just a typo? I’m so confused.

While I’m glad he was awarded the judgement, it’s wild that an undercover cop gets 23.5 million, while tons of civilians are also beaten by police and receive much lesser judgements, if they’re lucky enough to get anything at all…

He’s spent his entire life not being held accountable for anything he’s done, and getting away with everything, so the fact that he’s being held to account for some tiny portion of it now seems like persecution to him, and obviously the only reason anyone would do that is for political reasons.

I don’t envy the lawyers having to handle jury selection for this. With something this public, and this polarizing, I don’t understand how they could ever find 12 jurors who are truly impartial. Almost everyone in the country feels very strongly about this case one way or the other.
