The multiverse could have, and perhaps should have, been a great new angle for writers.

Instead, it's become a cop-out for lazy writers and executives alike looking to recycle old franchises.

Use it properly, or don't use it.

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds It can be great (Rick and Morty)

It can also a bit terrible (Marvel)

You know that episode on Star Trek: TNG when Data & Geordie ask the ship computer to create a unique mystery for Data to solve as Sherlock Holmes?

Well this game aims to replicate that, in a manner of speaking.

It's not Sherlock Holmes. It's set in a fictional New York and all the people in it live their own lives, and every mystery is randomly generated, making each one a new challenge to solve. I've not played it, but it looks great.

are refunding Helldivers 2 even though it's that are being morons.

I know Steam are not without criticism, but can you tell me of one other modern company that would do this for many thousands of its customers?

I'm the first to attack companies for bad practice but I also hand out deserved praise when companies act properly and deserve a lot of credit for how they've handled this.

I only wish there was some other way to reward them as I'm already a regular customer.

I'm not sorry. The next American who tries to tell me that one of the great things about the USA is freedom, I'm going to laugh in their face.

And of course, please don't think I mean any disrespect to those Americans who don't.

The very first piece of my writing that was ever published was an entry in the Dune Encyclopedia, some 40-odd years ago. So of course I have to watch the Dune films. I didn't get out to see Dune 2 in a theatre, so I paid the big bucks today and streamed it. I have my quibbles with they way it's being done, but on the whole I've liked both films. We'll see about Dune 3.

Strider,
@Strider@mstdn.games avatar

@joyce It deviates heavily from the book in ways I don't like and wastes really strong characters (like Piter) but the films are decent enough. Hardly Villeneuve best work, though, and certainly not worthy of the roses thrown at its feet.

Strider,
@Strider@mstdn.games avatar

@joyce Agreed. When she learnt of the Dukes death, so broke down. It was an incredibly powerful moment in the book because she has Bene Gesserit control. However, in the film she cried on several occasions and it was totally out of character.

I've not seen a true adaptation of the book yet. The TV miniseries got a lot of things right but it didn't have the budget.

I'd love to see a TV series really do justice to the conversations which, for me, were the real meat and potatoes of the book.

Now, I won't lie and say I was especially interested in this game to begin with but I can tell you what kills my interest pretty quickly.

Yeah, jog on.

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds I couldn't agree more.

I bought the game for Desura way back in 2013 and The IndieStone also gave me a Steam key so I could switch across without paying, which I very much appreciate.

I think it's a glorious game to play now. I think the 'endgame' needs more flesh and I think B42 in large parts is there to address that concern, but the level of detail already there is still quite impressive.

Strider,
@Strider@mstdn.games avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds The IndieStone have always been insanely consumer focused. A mod gently shot me down for suggesting the option to buy supporter packs on Reddit.
Gifting me the Steam key was smart because since then I've gifted the game several times to other people on Reddit so in effect, it's paid for itself.

B42 is really great. I'm really looking forward to it. Aside from The Wayward Realms, there is very little I'm looking forward to atm.

Yeah, the new blog post was interesting.

Strider,
@Strider@mstdn.games avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds However, as indicated, the grappling will be fully fleshed much further down the line. Nice little detail, but there are many other features I'm more excited for. The new sound/music, lighting system, animals, endgame crafting. There are so many new things coming to B42 I can't remember them all!

Strider,
@Strider@mstdn.games avatar

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds There was a more detailed blog post a few weeks ago which detailed B42, and there was a lot.

The Wayward Realms could be great, it could be utter dogshite.

The fact it's by the same people who made one of my favourite Elder Scrolls games gives me hope. Daggerfall was something brave, something different and I hope TWR will be the same. Compared with the unimaginative homogonized shite around these days, it at least has the potential to be something great.

@LadyMarth01 Yeah. They really set a gold standard and I'd really struggle to think of a better FPS experience. I've always loved their minimalist story experience, where you have to go looking for the story. It's a simple idea but it's so clever.

Any tips for someone trying to get into ?

I've played a few games and could never get into it. What am I missing. What do you think would help improve my experience?

The work to make this is impressive enough but the imagination, especially to think of that spontaneous track placement, is genius.
