Ah, it’s that time of the night when my neighbour’s annual big garden party turns to drunken group “shout singing” 🙄

I’m so glad they’re able to make occasional good use of the concrete & astroturf desert they made of the forest that was there when they moved in 👍

The rest of the time, it’s a sterile mausoleum.

No wonder all the dragonflies, frogs, & grasshoppers live on our side of the hedge 🤷‍♂️🙂

Well, today didn’t turn out quite as expected 😬

I’ve been feeling some swelling & pain in my left calf recently, & have worried it might be a recurrence of the deep vein thrombosis I had in 2019.

Was quite sore this morning so called GP at 2pm & got appointment for 3.15pm. In hospital in The Hague by 4.30pm, two ultrasound exams & more test by 5.30pm. Seen by four doctors & two nurses, home by 7.30pm.

Not 100% certain it’s a new DVT, but back to anti-coagulants it is 🤷‍♂️

@markmccaughrean This is scary stuff. Marcus's mum suffered from a very bad DVT after a flight and it wasn't caught in time so she had to deal with the consequences for the rest of her life. I'm grateful that you caught it and can treat it and that you are okay. ( you know because I worry) mega hugs!!! xxxs and oos

In a couple of hours, we’ll be releasing the first engineering images from our mission 🚀🔭

These come ahead of the main release of full colour images later in the year showcasing various regions of the sky, but already demonstrate that the telescope & instruments are working well 👍

One big difference between the world today and the world of tomorrow will be trees.

We will have a lot more trees in cities.

We will have trees in fields where crops grow.

We will have trees in pasture where animals graze.

Trees protect us from the hot sun and trap moisture for other growing things. And they sequester carbon.

Sun blazing down on asphalt won't seem acceptable as temperature goes up. We'll need trees to provide shade and keep cities liveable.

@evan Trees are our friends. Our (insert rude word here) rich af neighbours who think lighting up the garden at night until the wee hours so aliens can land there keep wanting to chop down the oak that stand directly on our gardens border. I have vetoed this. I love this oak. This oak which gives shade, blocks their lights from us, sheds it's leaves all over their, within an inch of its life, manicured lawn and produces a forest worth of saplings is the hill I will die on here. The Oak stays.
