If it was not for work I would likely not have noticed the Bing outage (they and Qwant, Escosia, DDG are Vivaldi partners).

Personally still using Kagi despite certain issues. It is not perfect but the current "least bad" option for me.

That said, if you want something truely indendent… @Mojeek

Not perfect either but certainly workable for many uses and they just seem like a cool bunch trying to make something special.

If we have more outages, at least give them a try! 👍

@ruari we don't currently show any ads, our revenue comes from paid API customers. If we experiment with them again we'll certainly consider a paid option.

  1. do a search using the engine you want to add
  2. go to the search settings in the browser
  3. it has now magically appeared below the preset list

@triskelion @arstechnica @brave the issue here seems to be that https://www.serpentos.com/ throws up an error instead of redirecting back to https://serpentos.com/; this has caused the home page itself to disappear from results.

We'll sort this out manually, if the redirect www to non-www happened automatically then it would have worked itself out 😀

While is down, I tried out a few other search engines. I did a search I made yesterday in each. gave me an interesting looking blog first, then some less-related info from high-trust sources, then an interesting paper, then a bunch of garbage. gave me nothing that looked interesting, just pages that used some of the words from my search. gave me the less-related high-trust sources first, then the entire rest of the first page looked interesting.

@timesandseasons this is because we are mainly keyword, with a little semantic. If you're able to share your search(es) we can put it down as an example to look into when we come to change the algo again. It could be that a bit more semantic is the way to go 😀

Hello @Mojeek! Apropos of, oh I don't know, everything relying on Bing being busted today, could you please help me understand the Search Selections?

I went hunting for a way to make Mojeek my default Firefox search and noticed that section in the settings, which had Brave, Ecosia, and Startpage checked by default. I read the linked blurb but didn't understand it.

I've tried in multiple browsers, both with and without plugins enabled, yet DuckDuckGo is still failing to provide search results (here, at least) just responding;

There was an error displaying the search results. Please try again.

It's been this way for several hours. Anyone else seeing the same? I'm in the UK.

Mojeek clusters by default (see more results under each host to keep variety on page), with pear being something that's on Git quite a lot it's a difficult match.

(Also, you saw the recent AI stuff, right?)

Folks, I know… I use Duck Duck Go also but remember they have venture capital. Enjoy it while it lasts (or let’s fund and build alternatives differently that aren’t temporary businesses with profit motives and exits but commons-owned institutions working for the common good).
