Okay, since I'm on laundry today, a little story.

When hubs and I first got married, we were very much enjoying our little Honeymoon Bubble, and we were being lazy as Hell. We didn't do many chores, but the laundry we really let go. We weren't wearing many clothes at home anyway, so why bother. Anyhow, after weeks we finally reached the swimming suit bottoms situation, and decided it was time. It was loads and loads of laundry that needed done, so I had my husband back the trunk of the car up to a window of the house, then he popped the trunk, and I started tossing laundry out of the window into the trunk. We went to the bank, got about $30 bucks in quarters, and found the emptiest laundry mat we could, and did it all in one fell swoop. We folded it all and loaded it back into the car using those wheeled laundry carts. We never let it get that bad again, and decided it was time to be adults, and do regular chores, but it still makes me laugh imagining what the neighbors and the laundry attendant thought.

Feel free to share your own laundry story, if you feel like it, I love hearing people's stories!

@DJDarren I get Phil to ring on my behalf (My doctors surgery is really crap with deaf accessibility) and they will give me an appointment wayyyyyyyy down the line......or, I can walk to the surgery, ask for an appointment directly and can generally see a doctor the same day.

Make it make sense?!

Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:

(Yeah, I know, it's part rap but more importantly it's Neneh Cherry with an important message..... and we still don't have a cure).

ChrisMayLA6, to disability
@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us avatar

Across the political Right, the narrative is that disability benefits (primarily Personal Independence Payments; PIPs) are too easy to get & are often paid to the 'undeserving'... however, in reality nearly half of applicants are rejected, rising to over two thirds for endometriosis (a gendered dimension I'll leave you to ponder), but with high rates of rejections over-turned on appeal (often with the same evidence).

More Tory lies, callousness & inhumanity

https://www.theguardian.com/society/article/2024/may/12/claims-conditions-personal-independence-payments-disability-benefits-cancer-arthritis-amputees

ItsThatDeafGuy,
@ItsThatDeafGuy@beige.party avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 it's a deliberately nasty and dehumanising procedure, a lot of applicants, myself included, are asked if we have tried to take our own lives or why we have not tried to take our own lives!

That's only a tiny part of the whole horrible process.

ItsThatDeafGuy,
@ItsThatDeafGuy@beige.party avatar

@sufferforme @ChrisMayLA6 also by outsourcing the government are shielding themselves from direct blame.... "Oh, it was ATOS/Capita doing that and not us"....

ItsThatDeafGuy,
@ItsThatDeafGuy@beige.party avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 @sufferforme thank you for the link. The application is also written in a certain way as to mislead, the applicant needs evidence to back up every single issue which the government/ATOS/Capita (or whatever the latter refer themselves as today) know is hard to do. My own background is within law so I know how to put cases together accumulating all specific case law and evidence in the right sequence, cross referencing etc. A person-on-the-street does not have this skill, and the government are counting in that.

Applicants are able to record the assessment as long as it's on tapes, yes, tapes and that two identical recordings are made. Again making it difficult for people to do this as cassettes and recording equipment is hard to come by. I recommend doing this though as it gives the DWP a lot less wiggle room.

Applicants need to ask for the assessor's notes in writing from the DWP immediately after the assessment is over. Also make a note of the assessor's name as well then the applicant can check whether the assessor has the correct medical background/training to correctly makes decisions (Clue: 9 out of 10 don't).

Once the assessor's report is in your hands scrutise it, raise every discrepancy with the DWP and make sure to cross reference them or provide additional evidence and/or case law.

Oh yes, don't make phone calls to the DWP, put everything in writing, send it by Recorded Delivery to ensure a signature, when sending the application in with all the evidence it'd be best going by Special Delivery. Keep a copy of that as well plus all postage receipts and file it all to one side. No phone calls, ever.

All of this, and more, goes into the appeal application.

ItsThatDeafGuy,
@ItsThatDeafGuy@beige.party avatar

@ianturton @Thebratdragon @purplepadma @ChrisMayLA6 @Research_FTW that's another thing, they get the applicants to go to centres way out of the area instead of to local ones. Then they ask "How did you get here?" and try as best as they can to mark the applicant down.

So, what's the thing, what's the big thing no one can help you with? How do you cope with it?

ItsThatDeafGuy,
@ItsThatDeafGuy@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr Losing my hearing, used to be a social butterfly, not anymore, sick of dealing with ignorance. Had so much discrimination to deal with in former place of employment that I ended up in hospital.

Then I started to put myself first on my own terms. I have health/MH issues all directly connected to being deaf in an able hearing world. They don't make it easy if you're ever so slightly different from what is called a 'social norm'.

Where do you live and how do you feel about it?

Obviously, don't tell me exactly where you live, no actual addresses please! You can be as vague as you like.

I live in Central Missouri in the U.S.

Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful place, green rolling hills, lots of rivers, lakes, ponds, and natural springs, cool caves to explore.

Lots of farming here, so great access to quality fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy.

It's relatively inexpensive to live here compared with other states, because it's a "flyover".

I'm close enough to three major cities, that it's an easy day trip, and I'm about halfway to anywhere in the U.S.

We have one of the best Conservation departments in the U.S. and this is one of the few things that is a bipartisan issue. Lots of awesome nature programs that are free or cheap, state parks, conservation areas, bird watching, hunting, boating, foraging available to everyone.

Cons:

Yeah, it's a big one, it is a RED STATE, while a lot of the cities are blue, there is a large rural population, that votes red. Abortion is not legal here. People often vote against their own self interest.

While I'm not against responsible gun ownership, lots of people aren't responsible, and people have access to guns that definitely should not.

We have very few employee protections here, while the cost of living is relatively low compared with other places, it's taken years to get to a $12 minimum wage, and it's still not enough.

@RickiTarr have tried to type a response several times and failed each time. Considering how tiny the UK is there are so many variables about it that it's difficult to condense it all succinctly whilst remaining neutral.

Disclaimer for anyone who follows my photography account on Pixelfed:

I KNOW about the Golden Ratio with regard to photography, I just don’t CARE about the Golden Ratio with regard to photography.

It's probably an autistic thing, but I find squares and grids to be much more comforting so I’m going to do whatever makes me happy, even if it means breaking the dumb rule of thirds.

If you're okay with that, this is my Pixelfed account: @Alice
