I posted this question to the Nitter Matrix room but figured I'd post it here too: Do we know how Nitter use impacts user and view counts within the Twitter system itself? Like do all these ghost accounts inflate the DAU/MAU and does an instance reading a tweet increase the view count metrics according to Twitter? I use Nitter because I want to view some accounts that didn’t leave Twitter without contributing view counts but if those are still increasing by reading accounts via Nitter I’ll probably end up only using even that only sparingly. I hate the idea of contributing to the Musk machine even in infinitesimal ways. #nitter#twitter#DeleteTwitter#ElonMusk
90% of voters, including 65% of Tories say Britain needs a fresh team of leaders!
If anyone's still wondering why Emmanuel Macron found time to meet Keir Starmer today, a quick glance at figures in the latest politcal monitor polling report from Ipsos will explain all 👀
⚠️ Sunak viewed as even less competent than Doris!
⚠️ Tories more unpopular on EVERY metric
⚠️ Sunak is less popular than Starmer in all but 2 metrics
But what jumps out is the binary thinking in terms of 'criticism of #Starmer can only stem from irrational hatred of him and is evidence of an irrational love of #Corbyn'.
It doesn't point to strong arguments or even an ability to engage in (constructive) argument.
The web-based version of #Mastodon is definitely better than #Tusky - it shows you what's 'trending' and is a much better way to get a sense of discussion across the overall network.
Maybe I should try a different client app for #Android
@ironeaglebird
This flashed past on my feed before I got to watch the match and I was gutted because somehow I 'read' it a negative.
Chuffed with that result.
Performance not great but the referee/s were a lot to contend with.
Great to see Vieria mucking in and squad depth showing its value.
Hard on Ramsdale and a brave decision but it was vindicated - it feels like Raya might be able to take us further and we've got to have a look in a proper team/match to judge it
So, been on #BlueSky for a while, and I can't say I'm impressed.
It really just feels like pre-musk twitter.
The web UI is buggier than mastodon, I've seen some weird behaviour.
It is super American, one of the nicest things of the fediverse is that it's not half as US dominated as twitter used to be, which makes it more pleasant for me. BS really feels like you stumbled in a democratic party convention.
It's still owned by SV money, and that just leaves a bad taste.
I was reading a newsletter of someone I really loved to follow on Twitter. While I feel newsletters work pretty well for me (reading in my own time is great), I found really sad that in the section about social media, the author said he really finds Mastodon unappealing.
He doesn't specify if it's a #design problem or a #culture one, and opting for BlueSky instead. He is not the first I read mentioning this.
I'm inclined to think it's a combination of both.
A spoiled ballot is a vote for the Tories. It's exactly what they want.
Labour's 15% - 20% poll lead is holding firm precisely because #Starmer refuses to throw the Tories a political bone.
As Napoleon once said "Don't disturb the enemy when they're busy making mistakes".
It's more important for the UK to remove these far right Tory crooks from power, than it is to wonder why Starmer isn't spilling his guts policy-wise, when an election hasn't yet been called... 🤷🏾♂️
Blaming 'Brexit, austerity, the pandemic & Putin's Ukraine war', purely on the #Tories seems quite partial given that #Starmer has taken a position or had a role in all of them which reveals his commitments and points to potential premiership. He also has a public voting record.
With the purges and the public statements, I think we can see his Labour already - long before #GE2024 is called.
@OliverNoble@AnthonyFStevens@Judeet98@Loukas
I think we're potentially more likely to get systemic change if the Tories win than if Labour win since the latter provides the archaic unrepresentative system legitimacy.
Corbyn tried to win by being open about his political intentions?
And that's why he lost?
Voters didn't like his political intentions (aka redistribution)?
This all makes it sound like #Starmer doesn't have political intentions and political ideology and that both are readily available in his statements and actions since becoming leader.
It seems to assume people are too naive or stupid to notice and should support him regardless.
@AnthonyFStevens@OliverNoble@Judeet98@Loukas
A strange word to use, that.
But on checking, what you appear to be saying is that critique of #Starmer is something 'causing an unpleasant feeling of fear or unease'.
Again, a very fragile form of triumph: your man's likely to win. One could indeed say he has already won, in terms of preventing any threat to the interests of #Capital for another few year.
But for some reason, this isn't enough?
#Jews are regularly told that #antisemitism isn't a major problem anymore because we all know that it's wrong and everyone who opposes bigotry stands up against antisemitism.
Yesterday Elon #Musk approvingly replied to a white supremacist, blamed Jews for Twitter's revenue losses and said that Jews are responsible for most of the antisemitism on #Twitter.
Why are almost all the people I see calling him out Jewish? Where are our supposed allies?
