geraten wir unter - sie bereiten ihre Abreise vor, heißen Nachzügler willkommen, tanzen den Wiesen zum Abschied verschiedene Tänze, während der Wind sich dreht, dem Nordischblau ein Ende macht, südliches Gewölk heranbringt.
Schließlich ist alles bereit, sie heben ab, steigen schnell weit auf, kreisen, sortieren sich und sind bald nur noch zu hören.

7 Kraniche, schwarz vom Gegenlicht, recht nah, alle fliegen in verschiedene Richtungen, sortieren sich
blauer Himmel, im Vordergrund nah und groß 5 nach rechts fliegende Kraniche, dahinter, fern, höher, ein großer Kranichtrupp, man sieht an den weit ausgebreiteten Flügeln, dass sie auf Thermik kreisen, Richtung suchen

@Elbwiese Ooooh schön!😍 In Ostfrankreich haben wir ja keine Kraniche im Winter. Die ziehen mit dem ersten Frost weg. Offenbar sind die Kraniche hier diejenigen, die Pause machen zum Zug gen NO: https://www.nabu.de/tiere-und-pflanzen/voegel/artenschutz/kranich/kranichzug-aktuell.html
Ich Trottel war immer so überwältigt, dass ich dachte, die bleiben über den Sommer hier. Dabei sind wir nur Durchreisestation!

@Elbwiese Du hast recht. Und wir haben ja zum Trost noch unsere Störche.😉 Dieser Nationalvogel des Elsass war mal fast ausgestorben, dann wachten die Leute endlich auf und renaturierten vor allem im Ried viel. Das kommt nun auch den Kranichen zugute (und Reihern etc.)

today is the 50th birthday of my best friend, (we met in kindergarten some time ago) and I don't know if I will call her...
She told me a few years ago she was dreading this milestone.
And she has not answered any of my emails or letters for more than a year (we live 2000km apart)...
I miss her...
What would you do?

@onecreativecat Difficult. An anniversary can be a good possibility to refind contact, just saying that you miss her and wish her all the best. On the other side, if she didn't answer anything ...
I had this situation with friends who didn't make contact for years. I tried it for the last time like this. It was fine and I heard that they had had so many problems that they isolated themselves. We had a fine contact but then they got silent again. Now I stopped to contact them, it's their turn.

Ich habe erst aus dem Gedächtnis gearbeitet, weshalb er braunes Haar hat
Dann habe ich vom Bild abgehäkelt, weshalb er die Tolle auf der falschen Seite hat

Ich bin aber super zufrieden

Leichte Seitenansicht, damit man das Pistolenholster sieht und die Naht beim Jeans Aufschlag

@Dusty Ich kenne die Comics seit meiner Kindheit und trotzdem hätte ich es nicht bemerkt, wenn du es nicht geschrieben hättest. Also den Perfektionismus mit sich selbst nicht übertreiben (ich weiß wovon ich rede als Perfektionistin), dein Lucky Luke ist einfach klasse! Außerdem hatte er einen Zwillingsbruder mit braunen Haaren! 🤫

@Fredatron @artcollisions I never used some for machines but a professional embroiderer told me that I should work with the shortest possible threads and needles in which the thread has little play. Otherwise, the eye of the needle saws the thread. I don't know if that could help.

@Fredatron @artcollisions It's important to give as little tension to the thread as possible, so I think we can experiment with very different needles.
For the goldwork in the 19th century, embroiderers often used pure beeswax for stabilising and softening the threads but this doesn't wash away. This has pros and cons: https://www.needlenthread.com/2018/03/on-thread-conditioning-beeswax-for-embroidery.html

Has anyone ever experienced a really strong feeling of nausea and then you sneeze and it goes away? 😅 I've been experiencing this for the last 6 months and my GP is clueless. I've read its something to do with stimulation of the vagus nerve but I'd love a smarter person than me to explain it? For context, its coincided with increased stomach problems. Nausea every morning, swollen stomach when I eat certain things etc. I've gone gluten-free and vegan to try to ease it but its still happening 🤔

Ich glaub den kann ich mal langsam ernten.

Asiasalate sind eine einfache Kultur die kaum Arbeit machet und mit ihren mild bis würzigen Geschmacksrichtungen,bringen sie Pfiff in jeden Salatteller.

@andreas_k_74 Du erinnerst mich daran, dass ich endlich den Pflücksalat säen sollte. Heißt bei uns in Frankreich anders, sieht aber genauso lecker aus. Und ist mehr kopfsalatähnliches drin.

@andreas_k_74 Das heisst bei uns einfach mesclun (Nicois für Mischung) und enthält nicht immer nur Salate. Der "Armensalat" aus Nizza enthält oft auch Senf, Schnittlauch und Rauke oder Rucola. Der hier hat nur Salate. Sind aber immer heimische Sorten.

Today, I discovered a new method for surveying mantises. Put your hand on the ground in some vegetation, pick it up again, and see if there's a mantis on your hand.

That's what happened today on my city biodiversity run.

This is an adult NZ preying mantis, Orthodera novaezealandiae. Note the broad shield across the thorax, unlike the narrow waste of the South African Miomantis caffra, which has displaced the NZ mantis from much of NZ.
