Yesterday I got annoyed about doomsday postings. But when I look out the window, they're all right! You can't look that fast as the little stream grows on the country road. I feel so sorry for the horses in the paddock across the road.😢 ⛈️

: It's not important how many you have! Don't look at !

BUT! For new followers, shows now the numbers instead of the profile description prominently (browser version). Such a deterioration, @Gargron !

I always read your descriptions and content before . I follow if you have 10 or 100,000 followers IF I'm interested.
But now we are downgraded to a name with follower numbers. Before the change, I saw personalities. (App seems still ok)

@enriquericos I even don't know how many I have 😂
Could be that it is not yet fully enrolled in other instances. It is so new that I even can't post a screenshot at the moment, because the publish button vanishes then.
I also sudedenly see disturbing grey lines from post to post, so I suppose that the programmers perhaps lost their screwdriver.😁 😎

@enriquericos Looks like this:

@enriquericos In the official Mastodon app, I still see the whole header of a profile with pics, self-description and a button to follow back. I can see also the number of posts, followers and followees, but the description remains prominent and visible.

How to cut fruit correctly and beautifully in 16 ways? What is the current method of carving a roast partridge? What about this fish? A short thread for and friends.

Well, a book from 1642 answers it all. The book about these knife skills and "how to cut" fruit and meat was a bestseller authored by Georg Philipp Harsdörffer (1607-1658). His "Newes TrincirBüchlein" (VD17 23:298595Z) can be found here:
http://diglib.hab.de/drucke/135-10-pol-3s/start.htm

A page from the book is shown: how to slice the head of a calf.

It’s not enough to switch from combustion to electric cars. The amount of metals like aluminium needed is insane, ecological consequences are huge, as this Washington Post report shows (gift link).

A move away from wasteful individual cars is necessary to much improved alternatives is needed, with close to perfect recycling of materials.

@christianschwaegerl This! And did you read that Norway plans deep sea mining in an area as big as Germany? https://news.mongabay.com/2023/04/norway-proposes-opening-germany-sized-area-of-its-continental-shelf-to-deep-sea-mining/ All these new mining sites destroying nature ... only for cars.

One late afternoon, somewhere on Skye, I went for a walk in the pouring rain and stumbled on this scene. I felt like I'd interrupted a modern re-enactment of an old fable. But I haven't yet worked out which one.

NatureMC,
@NatureMC@mastodon.online avatar

@JohnAltringham Such a stunning photo (and this composition) - it makes me speechless! Otherwise, I could tell you the fable of a car who snobbishly bragged about everything in nature and thought it was a noble peacock.
As punishment, it must serve as a shelter for a family of ducks. So that the car does not forget its mistakes, a peacock poops on its shoulder every day.

"'We are entering a sixth mass extinction,' says Paul Ehrlich in an interview with Warp News. He is not alone in believing this. But our investigation shows that is wrong. However, there is no shortage of problems with species extinction. But, by and large, we have now learned to manage them."

Is it correct to say there is no 6th mass extinction?

@djm Well, this newsletter isn't made by scientists. The man behind is Musk fan, was a liberal politician and dreams of colonising Mars for "sustainability": https://www.di.se/nyheter/svensken-lamnade-riksdagen-for-att-kolonisera-mars/ (Readable with Google Translate). And the author is known for his articles which were nearly from the climate change deniers' side. We have NOT learnt to "manage" it.

Sometimes, is nerdy work.😁 With my recorder, I concentrate so much on to a landscape. Our neighbours' dog howled an intro for a panel discussion with gardening animals. Birds sang and Bilbo was slurping from muddy puddles. And then I didn't understand why the bright yellow colza field just didn't want to sound yellow.😂 https://munsell.com/color-blog/paper-art-storytelling-interview-petra-van-cronenburg/

I had 10 posts for breakfast today that the world was going to end immediately/soon/rather suddenly. My feeling: Then I'll have an extra breakfast before! Should I then ask for suggestions for my self-doom? (Of course not!)
That's not going to work. Put energy into solutions, however imperfect. Tell me how I'm going to get off my butt after breakfast. What I can do concretely? Who do I have to step on? (Please don't lecture me, I know it, I just want to make myself an example of identification).

NatureMC,
@NatureMC@mastodon.online avatar

@theappletree We think similarly. I searched for the term earlier: empowerment. Of course, we also need the shocks. But they wear out just like endlessly identical actions.
On the other hand, it is damn difficult to work with surprise effects. It takes even more work to build active communities, much much more work than posting. I even find it tedious to look for good role models because they appear so little on social media. It's the ideas and examples that can nudge others.

NatureMC,
@NatureMC@mastodon.online avatar

@theappletree In France, f. e., protests against Total's shareholders' meeting in May are underway (one of the important starting points: the polluters). I found it impressive yesterday how students from the most famous elite schools showed that they never want to work for such employers. These are the schools where senior management is recruited! Foreign media hardly pay attention to such things.🙄
