I can’t believe it is less than 30 days till my 2nd gender affirming surgery for 2023, which is scheduled for 9/26 (which I am very happy is a Tuesday for reasons 😉).

I posted an update on my GoFundMe today as we near this important milestone.

Boosts / comments / donations / words of support all are helpful. This will be a challenging time for my whole family as my wife will be solo parenting our daughter while I’m healing. Support helps with the $$$ needed for her to drive between cities, easy meal preparation, medical supplies, and other odds and ends. I know things are tight for most of us these days, so please only donate what you are comfortable with.

Mainly from the community here, I could use friendship and support. If you happen to be close to me (or like road trips), friendly faces or voices would be welcome after surgery while I’m healing 🥰

Took my daughter to a birthday party, mostly classmates in her kindergarten class.

At one point a boy in her class asked me:
“Is (insert daughter name) dad dead? Cause she has two mommies?”

Cue mental 🤦‍♀️ and panic

Daughter: “My daddy realized she is a mommy and now takes medicine to turn her into a mommy.”

Boy: “Ok.”

End of that conversation.

Nice save daughter 🥰

Also that boy was in my daughter pre-K class when I came out 🤷‍♀️

I went to see Barbie yesterday.

It was amazing.

It was uplifting.

It made me cry.

Barbie has special meaning to me as a trans woman.

When I was about 3-4, when I started to cross the social gender borders, an adult authority figure yelled at me “earrings are for girls, you are a boy”. That sentence was burned into my brain, and would ring in my skull whenever I came across something feminine, or whenever I wanted to express my femininity.

I buried a lot of myself after that in an attempt to “fix” what was broken in me. Cue depression and dark thoughts throughout my life, but that is not the point of this thread.

Around this time 3 weeks ago, my life-changing surgery was wrapping up.

To say that I am happy is an understatement.

I feel at home in my body. Everything looks great.

I needed this. This honestly is one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

I “celebrated” by walking around the block for the first time this afternoon. That walk wiped me out and I’ll be recovering the rest of this evening 🤣.

Today I got out of the hospital!

Made it to the place where I’ll be staying for a week or two before I go home.

Also had my first post-surgery shower. That was so delightful!

Feeling good, though a bit stressed over all the things I’m responsible for now (meds, cleaning, etc.), but excited at this new stage.

Been seeing these types of posts lately, and figured I should add another data point.

Came out as #trans and started HRT at 38. Currently 40, with 2.5 years of HRT and one BA since coming out.

It is never too late.

So what has Samantha been doing in the west coast?

I spent the past several days with the Amazonian princess, Terra. She is doing great after surgery, and it was a pleasure being able to spent time with her and help out with her recovery.

As an added bonus I got to meetup in person for the first time with @NineIsntPrime and @bumpus.

Lots of laughs and good times.

As I sit at my hotel tonight before I fly back tomorrow, I am simply in awe at our community and the friendships that have formed.

At a convention center currently at an event for my child.

This is the same one that I’ve been to before for HRC yearly dinner / gala (I get invited by my job due to some of the LGBTQ+ work I do at the office). I am standing in the same room where the gala took place last year.

During the galas, the bathrooms are proudly listed as gender neutral (one set with a sign saying with urinals, another without).

Now, at this event (dinosaur exhibit), all bathrooms are gendered “ladies” and “gentlemen”.

Guess we only get gender neutral bathrooms when the queers pay for them here 😔. Wonder what the cost is to have gender neutral bathrooms added to an event contract.

This time in 4 days I hope to be home recovering from getting some upgrades installed.

To help prepare, I had things done to my hair (more purple) and face (electrolysis) today, along with my final HRT injection prior to surgery 😊

Surgery being so close is hitting me finally.

Today is voting day where I live.

My wife and I went first thing this morning (our in-person voting location is just down the street) and took our child with us.

I did have some issues, the person trying to check me in kept misspelling my last name. However she eventually got my name right, and my vote was cast

If you are able to vote, go vote.

It matters, both at the local level and national level.

It is nice that today also marks 6 weeks since my “genital origami” surgery (also known as gender confirmation / bottom / full depth vaginoplasty) and my last day of medical leave before I return to work. It was nice to be able to vote for those that support us living authentically on this day.

Today I did a few firsts since coming home.

Properly shaved.
Dressed in human clothing for the cooler weather.
Went out with wife and child to drop child off at a day camp (no school today due to… reasons).
Realized I’m wearing an outfit I struggled mentally to wear last year.
Realized I love said outfit and how it looks on me, especially now.

I can’t wait to try on more outfits in the closet over the next few weeks 🥰

During the how hard it is to be a woman speech that broke the Barbies brainwashing, we saw a guy get up, leave, and come back 2 minutes later.

It is a twisted sense of amusement when I explain to CIS people why I plan extra time to go through airport security.

That said, so far I’ve been lucky and only had some extra groping during my first flight after transition 🤢. Last few flights I breezed through. But with everything going on, I plan for the worst and hope for the best.

That means getting there early, having extra documentation even a domestic trip, and everything as close to perfect as possible for security checkpoints.

I’ve been thinking about dysphoria lately.

When I first came out, my wife gave me a lot of her clothes she no longer wore. Dresses, skirts, woman jeans, fancy blouses, those I got hooked to instantly.

However fitted tshirts, those triggered such intense dysphoria.

There were so many cute ones I kept them in a drawer.

The other day I went through my clothes. Some things don’t fit at all. However, fitted woman tshirts don’t trigger dysphoria now.

Now they trigger euphoria!
