Just a primate who collects #vinyl. Music isn’t everything, but it’s an awful lot.

I'm Enjoying the parts more without Jason on the bass. It's just a drone but it's seems to have been remastered to bring it out and hasn't done a great job. One is the best track so far.

@Whiskeyomega @TheVinylApe @vinylrecords my apologies for the single hair beard hanging off my regular beard.

@RVLara23 @TheVinylApe @Whiskeyomega @vinylrecords 😂 Let’s not encourage that.

@Whiskeyomega @TheVinylApe @vinylrecords I never understood the appeal of Suede. And I realize it’s a British thing, because my country didn’t want them and they failed miserably there, but I can respect Butler’s guitar playing. But Brett Anderson’s voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me. Or somebody swinging around a sack full of injured cats. Any aspect of those Suede records I appreciate immediately get canceled out by that “guy’s” voice.

TheVinylApe,

@RVLara23 @TheVinylApe @Whiskeyomega @vinylrecords attempting to be raw and garage-y is one thing.
But drums that sound like they were recorded inside a tin can and a complete lack of bass is another.

Even indie garage bands who record on their own in their own basements back in the 80s managed to get better sound. Those songs were so good. It’s a shame they’ve never been done true justice.
This is a conversation I’ve had many times with many people.

TheVinylApe,

@Whiskeyomega @vinylrecords the worst produced, recorded, mixed and mastered album of all time.
It was absolutely shameful for a “professional” band.

Been a little while since I stuck some on while I'm working but fancied it this afternoon. Starting with Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me by The Cure, an album I picked up when I was going through my "buy music by artists I don't really know well and see what it's like" phase in the late 80s and early 90s. The first track on side one, The Kiss, is such a strong opener and I still utterly adore it.

It might be time for this one myself!
I had Wish on last night. Might as well keep it going, and make today a Cure day.

Original pressing but I want to get the new American remaster. It's a shame when there's versions that are 45rpm but all the international and reissues are 33rpm when 45 could have been done all along. Still a great album

TheVinylApe,

@Whiskeyomega I say it all depends on how shorty a job was done on it to begin with.
Some albums are so butchered right out of the gate, it is immediately required. I’ve seen albums get remaster treatments after 3-5 years.

@TheVinylApe remember I had the issues with a few records getting destroyed after I dry to wet clean them. Think I finally solved it. The de-ironized water I was using went off 3 years ago. Oops.

Pretty excellent Record Store Day list for 2024. Good thing I save up for this well in advance! Sponge, Collective Soul, G Love and South Park are probably the ones I'm most excited about (I'm all about these 90s records getting pressed) but there's so many good ones overall.

@agustinharo @vinylrecords @old_hippie you have NO idea.

He regularly rocks a shirt he had made with a picture of him and Jerry Garcia on it taken in the 80s on it.

He may also live in a house made of wheat. We’re still trying to verify that, though. 😂

This is the internet we need back in our lives.

@Whiskeyomega quick question man…

I don’t like having a character limit, and I notice things that people are on like universeodon that don’t seem to have any limits.
How do I switch from the one that I’m on to one without character limits?

TheVinylApe,

@RVLara23 @vinylrecords agreed! This is one of my favourites as well. Congratulations, I’m Sorry is very good too, though not as heralded. This one is magic because of Doug Hopkins, one of the most tragic stories of ANY of those musicians who died.
He gave us some wonderful songs despite his pain.

TheVinylApe,
@TheVinylApe@masto.ai avatar

@RVLara23 @TheVinylApe @vinylrecords I don’t mind Major Lodge Victory. It’s pretty decent. However, I did not feel the same about No Chocolate Cake and Mixed Reality, and it starts with how they were recorded and mixed. The songs were average, but the albums just didn’t SOUND great.

TheVinylApe,
@TheVinylApe@masto.ai avatar

@RVLara23 @TheVinylApe @vinylrecords they never really went away, but the quality of their records weren’t as good past CIS.
Not having major label money anymore effected how those later albums sounded, and after they kicked Doug out and he died, they were never going to make anything as great as NME.

SUZANNE VEGA
Solitude Standing
1987 Canada pressing

One of my favorite female artists, & a total comfort album for me.

Sometime around 2001, Suzanne did a meet & greet/in-store performance at the record store I worked at in Harvard Square (it’s sadly no longer there).

She was so incredibly wonderful; staying for much longer than she needed to. She met every fan, signed everything, & hung out with us staff afterwards & told us dirty jokes. She’s the best.

THE SPECIALS
The Specials
1980 Canada pressing

A fun listen for the Hump Day blues.

Produced by Elvis Costello, it’s just one of those classic endlessly playable and FUN albums.

I can’t spin this without immediately wanting to hear The Selecter’s Too Much Pressure afterward.
So that’s probably hitting the table after this gem.
