Could someone, military or otherwise, please help me identify these patches? I found them in my step dad’s belongings. He was in the US Army during WW2, a cryptographic specialist stationed in Ceylon.

My plan was to photograph the guys who play basketball at the park every Saturday morning. Most of those photos are pretty uninspiring but before I left I was able to take this image. I’m not sure what she’s checking out on her dad’s face but I don’t mind the ambiguity. I’m not the first to notice this but I know from street photography that sometimes when you stop trying and just let the pictures come to you - they usually will.
