Whenever making a claim that when you a certain thing, a certain result CAN happen, it is technically true even if it doesn't happen very often.
But there are certain people out there who hold views so out of touch with reality that you really would think there's a strong chance they would sound more astute while drunk.
DeviantArt has done one thing right. At some point since I stopped using it over this they have reversed their decision to require people to pay for content not to be used as training data for AI models.
Now users can allow their work to be training data or not per post. The bare minimum to be done. Still leaves other big issues (i.e. fair compensation for doing so and visibility issues from AI 'spam') but at least now they have done the bare minimum.
The Artisan's Cooperative I posted about earlier was able to meet its challenge goal for funding.
This makes it possible to proceed without any external funding. No forced compromises with more profit-centric investors just to get it off the ground.
Many thanks to those who boosted or favourited that post, or even joined up or told someone else about it.
That post is added as a reply if you are just now hearing of this and wanna know more.
If you haven't heard of the Artisan's Cooperative, I implore you to give it a look. It is like the Fediverse ethos applied to a marketplace (think Etsy/Ebay/Amazon).
It has already received enough funding to launch in October.
It is open to a variety of digital goods (i.e. books & digital art), not just physical goods.
It is member-controlled, not corporate controlled. If this sounds interesting, check it out: https://artisans.coop/

Today I learned that CNN Business has the CNN Business Fear and Greed Index because those emotions are apparently the two main drivers of the stock market.
There's something about the utter shamelessness of a business site proclaiming as it does right now that 'Extreme Greed is driving the US market' without any hint of structural critique that is both totally expected and low-key tragic.
If there are writers out there who need to brush up on obscure collective nouns, or ones in use from a long, long time ago, I just came across a site that does just that, thanks to one Daniel Myers.
A lot of work has gone into it: the database in PDF form is some 153 pages.
Very pleased to see Wikipedia has now added a toggle to move between two layout options without needing an account.
The wider option provides the benefits of a sidebar Table of Contents but without having the potential mass of empty space that saw some heavily prefer the former layout.
Very much support people getting to choose what layout they want, where possible, instead of forcing a single layout on everyone regardless of individual contexts.
