I remember, way back when, I think it was one of Natalie Imbriglia’s first albums, I stuck it into my PC’s CD-ROM drive and something odd happened.

I could listen to a digital copy of the album via an included player and files that were in some locked weird format.

My CD drive couldn’t see the normal CDDA portion of the disc just this little data area with a digital copy.

Wasn’t impressed.

Oh my god Hyper Sports. Those kinds of games were joystick killers. Combat School killed my Quickshot 2!

That’s when I took it apart and learned about leaf springs and why microswitched joysticks were better.

GeekFTW, to movies

What is your favourite movie soundtrack and why is it Queen of the Damned? (seriously tho it's so good lol).

I love that album and I even went searching for the original Jonathan Davis songs many years ago. As you probably know, he was given permission to sing for the film but couldn’t for the soundtrack album.

The original Davis versions are probably quite easy to find now.

I presume the Linux version is the same (I used the Windows version) but WiiUDownloader gives you a lovely graphical interface to download anything from the WiiU eShop servers. Even copies files straight to an SD card ready to install on your WiiU.

Recommended FLAC converter?

I have a collection of music in flac format and now I want to store them on my phone. flac files get too much space and downloading all the playlist in mp3 takes as much time as finding decent and real high quality flacs (there is plenty of songs on internet which only look like 320kbps and are not really high quality). So I...

I’ve been using Poweramp since version 1.5 on my HTC Hero (Android 1.5!). I’m just curious as to why Musicolet is better. I’ve already noticed their statement about no internet access, so that’s a start.

Edit: Musicolet is louder on my Bluetooth headphones than Poweramp is, that makes 2 points. 😁

Another big day of not much. 😆 I’ve got some Blu-rays I’m taking down to CEX as they’ve been replaced by 4K editions. I’ll trawl through the charity shops as well but I’m not expecting to find anything.

Into the Breach - PC (Steam Deck)

Into the Breach is a simple indie turn-based tactical combat roguelike from the makers of FTL, where you pit giant mechs against giant bugs. Well, simple in the same way chess is simple - the basic mechanics of seeing what the enemies are going to do and using your turn to damage or move them so they don’t damage you and your...

I find FTL can be a right bitch and very hard…yet I keep going back for more!

The mods were fantastic. One that always sticks in my mind was Quake Rally. I think you controlled a car and drove it through the standard levels or some new maps, I can’t remember, it’s been so long.

I’m amazed that EA could literally sell the same game year on year and just update the stats and kits.

Foss music player suggestions?

Hello! I’m currently using Musicolet as music player app on my android phone, and I really really really like its features. the ones I use the most are the possibility to reorganize the queue just by dragging songs, and the “boolean” operations on playlists (for example, If I have the “favourite” playlist with a lot of...

After years of using PowerAmp, ever since Android 1.5, I’m having a bit of a FOSS moment and I’ve switched to Musicolet. It’s wonderful. I’m not switching again so soon! 😁

I’ll watch this because it has been directed by Neill Blomkamp but my hopes aren’t very high. The trailers make it look so generic.

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

That would make sense. I’d also like an option for all pictures in posts to be resized or cropped so everything is uniform.

I have Cyberpunk 2077 and Death Stranding waiting in the wings but I noticed CloudPunk was only £4. It’s a beautiful gave but after putting a few hours into it, I think it may be more about the story than gameplay as every mission is take person/object from a to b.

I’m autistic and my kids are autistic. So I like things done a certain way and they want to do it their way. Autism generally means we stand our ground on either side. We don’t clash that often thankfully.

Another annoyance is my eldest son will have an excuse for why anything wasn’t his fault. Even when I spot him doing said thing. He’ll say it wasn’t him and steadfastly stick to that excuse. 😐

Don’t forget Hasbro have been trying to turn their properties into films including Monopoly!

Ghostbusters 4K UHD SteelBook to receive limited edition reprint (ghostbustersnews.com)

If you missed out on the previously available Ghostbusters 4K Ultra HD SteelBook, containing the classic 1984 comedy and its slime-filled sequel, pre-orders have just been listed through Amazon for what is advertised as a “limited edition reprint.”...

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

No, as I realised it was a US announcement, I went straight to Amazon.com and made a pre-order and went to the final stage to reveal the all in cost to get a copy here. I wonder if it will get a reissue here?

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

Ouch. £70.56 to pre order now. I wasn’t happy with Sony pricing that ultimate set so highly when it has such amazing special features. I already have GB: Afterlife and 2016 on 4K. I’m just scouring eBay for cheap chips of the first two occasionally. I already have GB1 twice on Blu-ray!

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

Okay. I’ll keep an eye on the Amazon pricing. That’s quite high for what is essentially a reissue.

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

The Amazon US price inc delivery has now dropped to £47. Delivery is about $7 of the total price.

Although I’ve noticed I can get the original version from CEX for under half that price, just not in a fancy tin. 😁

What are your thoughts on restricting children’s access to pornography online?

There are a lot of GOP-controller legislatures in the USA pushing through so-called “child protection” laws, but there’s a toll in the form of impacting people’s rights and data privacy. Most of these bills involve requiring adults to upload a copy of their photo ID.

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

In the UK, The Online Safety Bill is almost about to become law. Without going into the full details, the government basically wants to monitor everyone’s messages to stop child pornography and protect people (and other stuff too).

The problem is, they want companies to scan messages and photos as they are uploaded and to give themselves backdoor access to E2E encryption services.

It’s very likely the UK will lose access to iMessage, Signal, WhatsApp etc as they would rather withdraw their services from the UK than break their promise to their users.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is a fractured mess and easily the worst of the series

Finally got round to seeing Guardians 3… What a waste of 2 1/2 hours that was. I enjoyed the first 2, but 3 was just terrible. The “story” is awful. Numerous, cheesy, cliché bits thrown together here and there. Nothing interesting or very cohesive. Nothing ever had a sense of consequence....

UKFilmNerd,
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

For me, Marvel peaked with Endgame. This was the end of ten years of interconnected stories and it was a fantastic run. Everything afterwards now feels like generic superhero films. Superhero battles new bad guy. Multiverse doesn’t interest me.

With the arrival of Disney+, there are television shows and films to follow and my wife and I have completely lost interest in the Marvel franchise. There’s so much content and we don’t find it interesting anymore.

But in saying that, we did see GotG3 as it was one of the film series we enjoyed and we wanted to see how it ended.
