Are microplastics from car tyres contributing to heart disease?
"Add one more likely culprit to the long list of known cardiovascular risk factors including red meat, butter, smoking and stress: microplastics.
"In a study released Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, an international team of physicians and researchers showed that surgical patients who had a build-up of micro and nanoplastics in their arterial plaque had a 2.1 times greater risk of nonfatal heart attack, nonfatal stroke or death from any cause in the three years post surgery than those who did not."
So it's not just the sedentary lifestyles that car-dependent planning encourages that's causing health issues.
And it's not just exhaust fumes either.
There's also the health impacts of microplastics, including from car tyres.
Worth noting as well that internal documents from the big oil companies show that they knew since the 1970s that recycling wasn't going to solve the problem of plastic pollution. They promoted it anyway: https://aus.social/@ajsadauskas/112064312364853769

"I think the biggest concerns are that people elsewhere forget about us and they think, ‘Oh they’re just the conservative state, and they’re all country bumpkins. Don’t worry it will never happen here.’
“And the next thing you know, it is happening in other states that are ultra-conservative.”

I mean, it’s not anything special to presidency. With concerts, it’s the conductor that gets the praise… with companies, it’s CEOs, with sports it’s usually coaches.
We’re not good in general at remembering the individuals, let alone acknowledging them and their cog in the machine. A flaw to be sure, but a universal one.
That said, I certainly agree with the sentiment, the wrong people do get the praise and blame for those under their authority.
It is easy, and justified to blame Trump for being anti-vax to have gotten as mainstream as it has…
… but that was only able to gain traction in the first place because people are being offered the choice between healing and going broke.
At some level, conscious or not, this is the masses rebelling against a system that has actively harmed them.
Unfortunately, the outlet for this rebellion actively harms them and is decidedly not in their best interests. It’s going to take at least a generation to rebuild that trust, and our medical system is going to fight tooth and nail to keep that trust ruined in the name of maximum profits,

It was nice to see a somewhat T’Ana centered story. Assuming she appears at all, she’s either making out with Shaxs or doing cat things.
Surprised it took so long to meet Levy. It played out as one might expect.
Glad we got some quality time with Delta Shift. We’ve had a few episodes featuring them, but they’re mostly off screen or limited to short exchanges.
As a whole package, I don’t think this episode worked as well as Veritas. There wasn’t a central story tying the four tales together. You could probably cut the hub tale, and possibly Tendi’s turbo lift tale, and not lose anything of value.
The unfortunate reality is that a not insignificant portion of US voters conflate modern Israel with biblical Israel.
Any stance other than full support of anything Israel does will stick Biden with the Right version version of being racist: an antisemite—and getting that label is enough to get apathetic right leaning voters to go to the polls.
Trump played the Israel card all the time and his base loved him so much for it that they would plug their ears whenever his crimes came to light.
Biden has the unenviable position where if he shows any signs of disapproval of Israel’s actions, he risks another Trump presidency. (Which is absolutely insane considering the whole insurrection thing.)
I really like the on-going gag that Starfleet/The Federation is actually as idealistic as it attests to be. It would be far too easy to leave Daystrom as Star Trek’s version of Arkham Asylum. But while the methods of rehabilitation may have been played for laughs, letting Peanut Hamper, Agimus, and Tyrannikillicus walk the path to re-enter society was honestly really appreciated.
If this has been DS9, Picard, or Discovery… I probably would’ve expected an Arkham Asylum angle… where the inmates are all in varying stages of vowing revenge. And, it’s easy to imagine the more Megalomaniacal inmmates may indeed be as such… I still appreciate that Daystrom’s shown in the light that they can be reformed.
An odd number of Binars… and we find the missing pair operating a bridge console at the time of the attack.
Certainly fits the profile of the other acts of treachery followed immediately by betrayal.
I have to admit, with the revelation that the ships are all being stolen with fake debris left behind… I’m at a loss as to what the endgame is.
I seriously doubt they’re being salvaged for parts. Lower Decks has already done that with the Pakleds.
The ships don’t really fit a profile. We have the huge vertical warbird to the tiny Orion vessel. The militant Bird of Prey to the sciency Binars.
Only the Orion and Ferengi vessels could be argued as sharing a mission—with their sorting of random weapons. But even if the ship is after weapons, there are better targets.
Taking the crews prisoner seems impractical.
Really, the only things the ships all have in common is a lower decker that is vindictive and gullible enough to commit treachery. But that’s not an objective, that’s a means to an end.
My local power company is a price gouger… but my state has mandated that we can select our source provider with zero penalties for switching… even between other sources.
It’s not a ton… since the ‘delivery’ fees are straight up highway robbery and not under the control of the outside provider… but it’s still something.
Currently doing research on solar and how much I need to save to afford the up front costs.
Personally, as a rule of thumb, I don’t think you can have enough in savings.
Our society is built upon going into debt… and I’d rather pay up front for things like a replacement vehicle or heater/pump or what have you, which means having enough to survive on—as you are inferring—and enough to survive Murphy making an unannounced and unwelcome visit.

Dunno if it’s true or not, but I remember reading that Picard brought being shaved bald to the mainstream. So like, folks younger than the thinning hair age would do it.
Again, can’t vouch for if it’s true or not, but if true, it would suggest it might be possible…
… that said, a cool character would probably have to wear one. And not just nameless background extras.
I liked the little look into the lower decks of the Orions, especially the plagiarism line; but the mysterious ship is getting less mysterious in the not-so-fun way.
Boimler and Rutherford are absolute dweebs. It was different having such a low stakes B-Plot. I feel like their story was missing a little something though. Still good fun.
Really enjoyed the A-Plot. Tendi does such a great job balancing being sunshine and rainbows and underworld assassin. I’m a little surprised her ride home wasn’t stolen/stripped for parts.
It was weird seeing T’Lyn, not just admit, but volunteer that she was friends with Mariner and Tendi. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a Vulcan do that. I mean, sure Spock and Tuvok have admitted they were friends with their respective captains, but only ever in some form of private non-sexual intimacy. But, as established, T’Lyn is a rebel, so it somehow fits her really well.
I was dubious going into this video. I was expecting a tirade about how Picard should’ve doubled down on nostalgia from day 1 and villainizing Patrick Stewart for wanting to do something different.
Instead I got a very thoughtful analysis about fundamental mistakes made by the writers that put them in the train wreck that it became—wanting to try something new, but not committing; over thinking TNG and under thinking Picard as it’s own thing.
I also strongly agree that Picard as a space Indiana Jones series would’ve worked so much better than a washed up vineyarder. I’m honestly surprised that I never considered this until watching this video.
You can swap the roles of any two actors in a movie. What do you pick?
