Men are, historically, “tougher”. This is traditionally facilitated by teasing one another so we become less sensitive to criticism.

Profit isn’t a bad thing if the employees are the shareholders.

The best thing about being an adult is that there’s no one to stop you from just buying a whole cake at the store and taking it home to eat it.

I let myself watch the whole thing are there are some surprisingly touching moments.

What's a band that has one album that is just about perfect in your opinion, but rest of their discography misses the mark with you?

One of mine is Commit This to Memory by Motion City Soundtrack. I basically took the title verbatim and know the album word for word. And while I would love if it did, the rest of MCS’s stuff just doesn’t hit the same way....

It’s still very much AI for a while. The current incarnation is still in relative infancy, and will only continue to get more capable and disruptive. We’re starting to see the integration with robotics, this is only going to become more significant with time.

It’s likely that the next big thing will be a consequence of AI.

I don’t understand this deliberately pessimistic perspective I keep seeing around AI development that stubbornly ignores every other technological development in history. Even just considering the singular transformer architecture, we’re still seeing significant and novel improvement. In just a couple years we’ve watched the technology go from basic predictive text to high quality image and even video generation, now to real time robotics control.

The transformer architecture is incredibly powerful and flexible. The notion that the basic technology staying the same is an indication of stagnation is as ridiculous as if you said the same of transistors half a century ago. Most of the improvement we see in the near future will be through recursive and multi-modal applications, meta-architechtural developments that don’t require the core technology to change at all.

Magic Missile is a first level spell, regular missile costs several thousand dollars

First level casters would be less cost effective than third level casters.

I have a great grandfather named John Smith who moved across the country before marrying my great grandmother. Tracking down anything on his branch before they got married has been basically impossible.

To be fair, the manifesto notes some very valid observations. The conclusions, and definitely the praxis, may be wrong but the core idea that modern civilization is at odds with human nature has only gotten more obvious since it was written. An-cap is absolutely not the answer, and would definitely make things worse, but there is a valid question.

The back, that way the peel stays in one large easy-to-dispose-of piece instead of a fragile octopus

It is. We say sapience when discussing intelligence, and sentience when discussing consciousness.

What strikes me is, how old it is, how close the time stamp is to the precise anniversary of the original.

What are the most mindblowingly creative, inventive, or otherwise otherworldly albums you know of?

One of my favorite things to do while stoned is listen to albums that are really unique, artful, and/or jam packed with soul and energy, as in that head space music just hits completely differently and it just lends to me finding a deep love and appreciation for the art of music. What’re some of your favorites?

As someone with extensive experience with sleep deprivation, I can say with confidence that Parade sounds exactly like the seam between consciousness and sleep.

Metaphorically blind.
