Folks, get off Twitter. I don’t care where you go, be it Bluesky or the Fediverse, but leave Twitter.

Your continued involvement on Twitter supports this.

Context:

alexl,

@leobm @ramsey

The wrong things I see:

  1. Not respecting a person refusing a term to define them
  2. Harrassing that person
  3. Sharing a reply without the context because it is embarrassing that trans can harrass
  4. Saying that cis and cisgender are considered slur no matter the context

Fair enough?

alexl,

@Stoat @ramsey

I'm tired of verifying things because others are too lazy to post a link. And anyway what you reported has nothing to do with the matter, unless you think that a circle of hate is normal and healthy.

alexl,

@ArneBab @leobm @ramsey

> But for that he would have had to acknowledge the right of trans-people not to be misgendered.

The rest is right and it's what I said but what evidence there is on Musk not respecting this right for those people?

If you are Redditor, we would like to know your opinion: r/kde has been closed for several days to unsubscribed users in protest for the company's latest decisions. Should we open r/kde up now or wait? Tell us what you think by filling out the poll here:

alexl,

@kde

Who cares, /r/kde is moderated by fanatics who are intolerant of other people and their opinions and that subreddit basically killed the good old KDE forum.

ITT: open-source, #FediVerse, and how it can influence private sector and create change.

Note up front: I'm going to use words like "decommodify", "consumerism", "capital", and "rentierism" a lot here, because I need the vocabulary. I am not a Marxist or some other kind of radical, nor wholesale anti-capitalist, and certainly not a revolutionary. I'm a social democrat, progressive, and reformist. Keep that in mind if you reply to me.

> One of the biggest strengths of the movement is that it does not hesitate to use the tools of its opponents against them.

I see this going too far when depending a lot on GitHub or Discord instead of promoting GitLab/Codeberg/Forgejo and Matrix for example and it seems to me that today we need a constroversy in each proprietary platform to start using a FLOSS alternative... luckily there are more radical people that cultivate those alternatives for years.

What’s the best server to join? And is it the best alternative in the ?

alexl,

@feditips

Wake up man, have you seen what they are doing to Assange? Do you really think you can tell where the truth is in centuries of propaganda by multiple parties? Amnesty International? Really?

What the US has done to the world for decades is beyond genocide yet no problem with people supporting criminals like Joe Biden, who ordered civilians to be bombed in Serbia among the other things.

alexl,

@feditips

You are missing the point: in this world you can't just share Amnesty International links, think the discussion is closed and disrespect other people's right to disagree.

Every single international institution or movement can't be trusted like you are doing.

Biden being responsible for war crimes is official and admitted by him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quTxPFbCEVk

So I expect from you the same treatment for anyone who don't condemn Biden like you are doing for Stalin, China or whatever.

“Hey, some fediverse instances are growing larger and larger, isn’t that great? Yay!”

Stop and think about what this means. You’re celebrating the creation of fiefdoms and feudal lords. Mini Zuckerbergs, if you will.

There’s a reason I’ve been shouting from the rooftops about limiting server sizes for as long as I can remember.

e.g., If mastodon.social blocks my instance of one, they block 1,196,910 accounts from interacting with me. If I block them… I do the exact same thing to myself.

Here there is a mitigation that (un)surprisingly has not been implemented yet:

So I installed Ubuntu a couple weeks ago. And it's been

Really nice! My best experience with desktop Linux ever, actually. This weekend I've been using it for daily use instead of Windows and I've been satisfied.

Until

Until today I ran the GIMP :(

Oh my god it's so bad :( It has not noticeably improved in 20 years and it was bad then

I made this with it https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/110/560/275/613/023/168/original/aab40922c303d7e3.png this is… well below my expected quality levels for a joke/meme image. But this was the best I could do in GIMP :(

alexl,

@mcc @keithzg

I think Inkscape + Krita + Digikam cover everything related to images and it's why Gimp didn't improve much, there are better specialized alternatives and "image manipulation" is a too technical approach from the past

alexl,

@mcc @keithzg

All of those three apps manipulate images but:

Krita is better if you need to draw with a pen or edit pixels

Digikam is better if you want to adjust or add effects to photos

Inkscape is better for everything else, it partially covers Krita and Digikam use cases and probably near to your idea of image manipulation :)

I stopped using but seeing the spec work disguised as a logo contest they are promoting disgusts me and I won’t consider using it again. Just pay an artist to create your logo.

alexl,

@greg @rubbs

Hi, I have contributed dozen of icons and logos for FOSS projects, I have never received any payment and I'm fine with that

I am not a professional graphic designer but, with the utmost respect, I find this professional category extremely below my expectations. Moreover the author must know the product well and maybe be a user and member of the community

Do you think you can find a suitable professional? I wouldn't be able to do so 🙂

Commercial mindset is not always the best...
