Well boys, just booked my first flight ever. It will happen on Monday.

Iโ€™m kinda nervous ๐Ÿ˜… Iโ€™m not afraid of dying on it, but Iโ€™m honestly only scared ofโ€ฆgetting sick. That, to me, is a fate worse than death ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

anji,
@anji@metalhead.club avatar

@davidbures If you get nervous, look out the window. It helps.

Also during take off and landing expect some odd vertical movements. That's just the flaps extending and retracting which changes how much lift the plane generates. Nothing to worry about.

@thomas Lemmy is a thing, but while it technically works, sadly the communities on there are mostly empty or full of negativity and bad vibes..

Matt Farrah of The Smoking Tire gave an honest and (therefore) devastatingly negative review of the . Good on him. Every point he makes is spot-on (except maybe the chuckle-inducing post-Apocalypse truck argument).

@drahardja TIL The USA has no pedestrian impact safety standards.

Disappointed, but not surprised.

Dang, I just realized it's been about 5 years since I was working on shipping a game. That time went fast. No surprise, but game dev tech is a lot more fun when the pressure is off!

anji,
@anji@metalhead.club avatar

@demofox Soon I'll get to play the last game I worked on, running on the latest GPU I worked on.

It is an amusing concept :)

@demofox Yep. 8 years for me soon. Years do go by quickly.

I miss working on games to be honest. But like you it seems, I find satisfaction in other aspects of working on games/graphics tech.

Got $800k+ burning a hole in your pocket? Want to buy a car that you can brag about and trailer to car shows but never drive? Then this may be for you!

anji,
@anji@metalhead.club avatar

@drahardja I agree. A Ford Mustang Boss 302 on the road is automatically far cooler than any hypercar spending its life in a climate-controlled garage.

anji,
@anji@metalhead.club avatar

@drahardja The engineering of the LFA is impeccable but I wish I liked the styling more. It looks like a Lexus. That's fine but I want an $800k car to look like a Zonda.

The slow collapse of downtown commercial real estate is continuing. I suspect news like this, and stories about the decline of retail around downtowns that depend on daily commuter traffic will come in at faster and faster rates.

Workers are not returning to the office to work. and are showing to be a perfectly viable solution that is more friendly to workers. Even with hybrid work, the volume of people commuting is far lower than it used to be.

is slowly declining to a new, lower-value equilibrium.

anji,
@anji@metalhead.club avatar

@drahardja Perhaps those with a stake the value of downtown and commercial real estate should lobby to increase the availability and quality of public transportation.

It'd sure be a lot easier to go to the office if it was a comfortable ride unaffected by traffic. And offices would need far less parking.

Eh, it won't happen. But it would make sense.

Feeling especially nostalgic for the '90s right now.

Everything seemed better back then. The way it was supposed to be.

Maybe it's just looking back at being a child which feels this way?

Yeah 6-string guitars are fine, and 7- and 8-string guitars are better, but how we make our new band sound REALLY heavy?

"instead of 6-string guitars they use 110-string hammered dulcimers"

... perfect.

Hah. At one point the Allies in WW2 had so many code-worded battle plans that everyone, including Churchill and Roosevelt, was mixing them up and getting confused.

"One-third Bolero" and "Semi-Gymnast" are my favorites. Naming things is hard!
