Considering a "back to top" on my weblog. Not a floating one though, I think just at the bottom of articles or listings.

...or maybe just in the global footer.

Ugh. Felt like an idiot earlier today when I stubbed my toe, hard, and now hours later feeling sorry for myself too as the pain is now worse and it's turning purple. Yay. Hope I can find an appointment to get it seen to sooner rather than later...

anniegreens,
@anniegreens@social.lol avatar

@sarajw I broke a large toe stubbing it when I was around 20 or so. It wasn't fun, hopefully you just sprained it or something 🤕

anniegreens,
@anniegreens@social.lol avatar

@sarajw definitely get it checked out, but agree that they might just advise keeping it elevated, iced, and stay off of it, which will probably annoy the heck out of you like the last time you had a foot/ankle injury (can't recall exactly what it was, but I remember you hated it!)

I appreciate this, but at the same time I recognize that personal sites can contain very personal information (in content) and with the way the landscape of public repos and AI is evolving, as well as general exploitation, I am still hesitant to make mine public.

I was just lamenting the public requirement the other day for automated Micro.blog backups, so this was top of mind when I saw this toot. If it was just code, I would be less hesitant, but it isn't.

There is not a better album to listen to at night than Automatic for the People by R.E.M. None.

(Just do yourself a favor and skip “Everybody Hurts” because everyone has heard it 234534543534 times.)

What is everyone using for software mute on MacOS nowadays? Gosh I can't even recall what I used to use for work...Hush? or, no, it was something else, and it was on my work machine not on this one.

anniegreens,
@anniegreens@social.lol avatar

@robb Thank you! I think this came up in my search, but it isn't familar.

I wonder if it is new enough that it didn't exist around four years ago the last time I was using software for this need.

@robb now that sounds familiar

After 2.5 years, I'm finally going to get over my fear of putting things up on my plaster walls and actually decorate my apartment. Better late than never, right?

Things that have stopped me: I rent and want to get my security deposit back when I move out, so I don't want to ruin the walls. The plaster has slight cracks in it already because it's so old. A lot of my posters are framed and heavy, so command strips might not work.

(Plaster walls are the worst.)

anniegreens,
@anniegreens@social.lol avatar

@starshaped This is what picture rail molding is for! I am very grateful for all my lovely molding in every room, except the bathroom, but that room was gutted and sheetrocked and tiled so I just put holes in the walls in there. But I still have not put a single hole in my home's plaster walls since 2011.

anniegreens,
@anniegreens@social.lol avatar

@starshaped what?! bizarre, I think it is unheard of for a plaster aged home not to have picture rail molding, unless it was purposefully removed and that is a bummer

anniegreens,
@anniegreens@social.lol avatar

@starshaped weird! I wonder if there was a "class" thing involved, not that my house is anything fancy, but they used to do this with flooring material too

the "public" rooms in my home have oak hardwood flooring and the non-public rooms (ie bedrooms) have Douglas fir wood flooring

that was a cost thing, and it is a kit house (craftsman) so I know it is original, it runs the length of the house under the walls, and they'd choose to just put the spendy stuff where most people would see it

    @mph Nothing annoys me more than sitting directly across the room from my HomePod in my Living Room, asking Siri something, and having her answer me two rooms away in the Kitchen.

    Sometimes when I'm listening to something in the Living Room she gets activated by the sounds in the Living Room even when they are coming from another HomePod something that frankly boggles my mind.

    Good job I still prefer the look of the one I bought but what interesting timing https://www.theverge.com/2024/3/28/24113566/8bitdo-commodore-64-retro-mechanical-keyboard-specs-release-date-price-features

    And it comes with a joystick?! Oh no.

    @robb I am envious of keyboard enthusiasts. It seems like a fun consumer habit, even if I don't think I could ever participate.

    @scott quite an array of vehicles in those three spots: the Jeep is parked way over, either out of fear of the vehicle or the owner or something else, and the mini is so small it doesn't need to park way over and can remain safely within the lines even next to the idiot

    @scott Wow, I'd love to see the setup of your place, it is multi-housing? what are your plans? I've never heard of such low amps per unit, but I suppose ~1920s 1-2 bedroom units would have had that. My home is a 1930 Craftsman and had 100amp panel when I bought it that was installed in the 1960s. I had it replaced with a 200amp panel in preparation for switching to all electric at some point. I have a 100amp breaker to prevent surging and a whole house surge protector.

    People: “It’s absolutely essential that all accessibility people meet at CSUN! Collaboration is important!”
    Same people: “I will not do the minimum thing to prevent spreading diseases to vulnerable people. And as I have seen none of those are here anyway.”

    This is an awesome community!

    anniegreens,
    @anniegreens@social.lol avatar

    @yatil sigh

    I've been unable and unwilling to boost any of the probably-good content coming out of that gathering because I'm just so disappointed. Literally a conference falling under the "Center on Disabilities" and it cause me more dissonance if it tried.

    anniegreens,
    @anniegreens@social.lol avatar

    @yatil For the most part, I have too. But there are certain places and things that I find it unacceptable: doctor's offices, hospitals, pharmacies, public transit, heck, even grocery stores—if it is an "essential" service (and I hate that term) than I think it should be required. But then there is just also this type of thing that is so bonkers two-faced.

    @cory I don't defend them, but I also don't criticize them more/above the others, as some people do.
