    @scott Wow, I'd love to see the setup of your place, it is multi-housing? what are your plans? I've never heard of such low amps per unit, but I suppose ~1920s 1-2 bedroom units would have had that. My home is a 1930 Craftsman and had 100amp panel when I bought it that was installed in the 1960s. I had it replaced with a 200amp panel in preparation for switching to all electric at some point. I have a 100amp breaker to prevent surging and a whole house surge protector.

    @yatil For the most part, I have too. But there are certain places and things that I find it unacceptable: doctor's offices, hospitals, pharmacies, public transit, heck, even grocery stores—if it is an "essential" service (and I hate that term) than I think it should be required. But then there is just also this type of thing that is so bonkers two-faced.

    @sarajw the name comes from the fact that the blooms open at dawn or when the sun hits them and fade throughout the day

    they only last one day

    they are native to north america, but have been cultivated/hybridized, and are invasive in many areas where they are not native (in parts of north america) since they readily self seed and grow extremely fast

    @andyn It has been my development browser of choice since 2005. The combination of good privacy options + familiarity + supporting browser diversity, and I'm obviously missing a bunch. I use Safari as a daily driver too. I use Safari + Firefox as daily drivers, Firefox Developer Edition as main dev browser, Nightly for some other accounts. I have Safari tech preview, Chrome, and Canary (and DuckDuckGo browsers) really just for testing stuff once in a while. I don't have Edge installed or others.

    @elly I am in a very similar yet different place. I've been unemployed longer, I'm ill and not sure I can work, yet need to and want to. But I hate how it looks out there and am: a) not sure I could do it, and b) pretty sure I don't want to. Also, "my savings are almost all gone" yes, and "I’ll look back and wonder why I didn’t enjoy my time off more" yes, and "I’m disabled by the systems that I have to engage with in order to survive" yes.

    @mph I try not to interact with anything. They've really done a doozy on the UI there lately. It is such a mash of interaction points it's hard to know where to look. It's the same feeling as when a project gets moved from active development phase to the phase where marketing is control of changes get made, and then the just start throwing features at a product without any thought.

    @andycarolan I live a few blocks from a community co-op and I get a weekly delivery from another small(ish) PNW service (based on a local dairy but now owned by another Washington-based outfit). I don't really shop at supermarkets much anymore.

    @andycarolan I still do curbside pickup from an area supermarket every few months just to get some things that aren't at the other places, but it's shelf stable stuff that I buy some quantity of, or non-food stuff. And sometimes I don't feel like doing that and order from Amazon instead. Not my favorite, but at this point all the large box supermarkets are nearly as bad as Amazon.

    @andycarolan In the US, two of the largest grocers are trying to merge and if they are allowed to (there is a court case going on to prevent it, ie monopoly) they will control a giant chunk of the market.

    Two quotes from a 2022 CNN article about the merger:

    "would combine the fifth and tenth largest retailers in the country"

    "The top five grocers – Walmart, Kroger, Costco, Ahold Delhaize and Amazon – control about half the market"
