Still thinking about the guy who showed us round the caves yesterday and the way he said, “Yesss!” in an emphatic, mysterious voice after every piece of information he imparted. “And this formation over here, it looks like a woolly mammoth. YESSS!” “Here you can see the algae is green, not grey. Why is this? It is because it is exposed to the shaft of natural light. YESSS!”
I am finally watching The Beekeeper tonight and I’m honestly impressed with Jason Statham’s bee tending techniques. No lie, he’s being gentle with the (probably CGI’d) bees, using brushes and his knives and his centrifuge well. I bet he seriously tailed a a real beekeeper doing rounds at apiaries for a few days to learn it all.
The only part that feels off is his outfit: looks like he’s wearing a competitive fencing uniform, my beekeeper suit isn’t fitted or padded in any way like his.
escalated the minor Plumbing Crisis to the point of going down to the management company's office instead of just calling the apartment manager, now we have a new sink coming tomorrow
played too much fucking Shapez
poked the state bureaucracy and found out that my stupid name change is at the point where I just have to go to the courthouse and bring it to a judge and get it signed, FINALLY, now we can start discussing the marriage that this stupid state requires an in-state name change instead of accepting the one from Boston that Louisiana was perfectly fine giving me an ID based on, maybe this is a special bug exposed by me being born here and getting a name change elsewhere, then coming back and getting married, I dunno, but I started this process back in MAY 2023
@craiggrannell he’s got his clone dad telling him the whole things a fuck up since Origins and whole bunch of shit coming back to fuck up the city in Day of Chaos so there’s probably some seeds of something that weren’t there for shiny new Casefiles 1 Dredd — nothing tight boots won’t handle.
I have been spending the past month working (a lot) to relaunch my daily story recs as a newsletter with the demise of Twitter. Built up well over a month of recs to post.
But IDK which service to use. Obvs not Substack. 5x/week emails need to be affordable. Is this a thing? Any comments welcome
Just saw someone on reddit recommend “The 48 Laws Of Power”as a good book for junior devs and I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed more blatant career sabotage
I grew up reading Heinlein novels too; the difference (I think) is that I learned (a) how to read critically and (b) that Heinlein loved to play fake-out mind games using unreliable narrators, to study ideological positions he didn't necessarily agree with but enjoyed playing with. Oh, and (c) he had some weird unexamined cognitive biases.
@cstross I remain an “Elon Musk has never read a book” truther. Under this theory he’s maybe read a summary or one or two lines from that one chapter that’s a manifesto.
Crap, I am out of power because the tablet ran out of power and sucked most of the computer's power when I plugged it in for a while. Now I am at a cafe and there are plugs everywhere but for some reason the power brick is not in my laptop bag. Guess I'll have to figure out where it is when I go home.
