It's been a while since I used poetry

Why do I need a folder inside my project with the name of my project duplicated? Am I missing something?

I must be, even npm isn't that goofy

Edit:

@bjoernricks

Ok so... It seems like poetry new --src --name <the.package> is fine

poetry init gave me issues with the same directory structure, I must have messed up elsewhere?

I've been exclusively using for over 6 months now. It's fine. Everything works including games and video conferencing. At this point unless there's a window manager you really love, or you're a masochist who buys GPUs without open drivers, I'm officially calling it better.

I don't know why we're being reasonable and thoughtful about conspiracy theories that Microsoft, or GitHub more specifically, are targeting SourceHut and/or Codeberg and/or Hacker News...

Microsoft doesn't play by those rules, they make their money by being deceptive on a daily basis. The way I see it, if I play by the rules while every else lives in the Wild West then I'm just an idiot.

ascott,
@ascott@fosstodon.org avatar

Yes, I'm aware that was a little aggressive. However, I'll save my apology for when Microsoft changes their business practices.

(Don't hold your breath.)

I've been enjoying the key switches I picked up: Akko Cream Blues; and JWICK T1s.

The Akkos have a nice clack sound if that's your thing, however the bump is too light for me. There's a noticeable bump, definitely tactile... I'd likely recommend them to someone with "light" tactile who wants to try a "regular" tactile..

The T1s provide a proper speed bump (67gf) but the sound needs improvement to my ears. When I have the cash for better switches I'll branch out from here.

What is everyone using for time management outside of work? I need something to help keep myself on task for household chores etm.

I've tried regular calendars and task lists, they're too easy to blow off. I've tried org-mode, but I always end up playing with my config file more than I organize my life. Project management is way overkill, although I could try it again.

Bonus points for FOSS, of course, but a proprietary solution that isn't data hungry would suffice too.

Random thought of the day... Why does the paleo diet have so much meat? Which ancient peoples mastered factory farming before irrigation?

ascott,
@ascott@fosstodon.org avatar

@deshipu
Anthropology isn't my strongest point, I'll admit, but didn't those tribes like the Berbers emerge after the end of the Paleolithic era? There aren't any references to them I can find prior to ~10000BCE. Obviously their culture would have emerged from what occurred before, however those tribes are not Paleolithic (nor can I find evidence that they eat meat at the same rate as Westerners, much less at the rate of a high meat diet).

ascott,
@ascott@fosstodon.org avatar

@deshipu
All good points, however I'm not seeing how that contradicts my OP? I completely agree that arbitrary dates don't even begin to tell the story of human history, yet we're still talking about tribes of people who do not engage in "paleo diet" behavior - they're reacting to the material conditions of their existence as humans always have. If anything, wouldn't the absence of a clear paleo era as you've stated lend less legitimacy to the diet, not more?

ascott,
@ascott@fosstodon.org avatar

@deshipu
I suppose what I'm trying to get at is that my initial "random" thought was that the paleo diet makes no sense. At the least, the term "paleo" is ridiculous when you look at human history.

I don't know that we're in disagreement on that, it's a fad diet after all... we seem to be getting bogged down in details which are interesting, just not damning to my statement imo.

I could have said it better in the first place of course, but it all started as just a random post.

A for-profit company that sells closed source software changed their pricing model to extract more money from creators, and I'm supposed to be surprised? That's a laugh.

@WagesOf
I don't know. I've seen some people talking about switching to Unreal, but that's going to be impossible for many established projects. I also wouldn't expect them to put indie developers' interests first anymore than Unity does.

It's a tough situation and while I'm not entirely unsympathetic I'm not surprised either.

I saw a conversation last night that had me thinking... already bad news, right?

Well people were arguing whether it's worth it to donate to , and I realized that I have used for well over a decade and I still don't understand the relationship between the Mozilla Foundation and its for-profit subsidiaries.

Moreover, people seem generally divided into two camps: those who trust in Mozilla, and those who don't.

So is there a middle ground here? Maybe even with some evidence?

ascott,
@ascott@fosstodon.org avatar

@jibsaramnim
Sadly, the fact that they're the 'lesser evil' seems to be the only compelling reason I've heard to donate. No one is able to prove to me that they spend the money improving Firefox like we hope they would... but regardless of what money gets spent where their absence would be far more damaging in the long run.

Transparency is key here, I think... and I don't even understand their corporate hierarchy haha.

It's probably why I see these two groups forming: the die-hards and the pitch fork sharpeners. In the absence of knowledge people have reverted back to tribalism.

Please, before you reply in anger or scroll past, hear me out. I'm one of the "diverse" people whose interests you are defending - so surely you would not dismiss my views?

Sorry. It was a bad moment and I really don't think you're a bad guy. One of the reasons I'm upset is that I don't need the domain that comes after my username to make me look bad. As you can see, I do that well enough on my own...

As an outsider who also lives in a country known for gang violence (US), it almost seems like the Swedish authorities want it that way.

When the penalty for nonviolent narcotics crimes is worse than setting police cars on fire there's a disincentive to care about the latter.

I don't mean to be harsh... it's not like we have a better handle on things over here. (You'd think we would have learned that lesson with the prohibition on alcohol, but no...)

Of course not, nor did I suggest such a terrible thing. I don't know any Americans who want to be shot either, but I can thing of a lot of politicians who benefit from that fear. I'm impugning the Swedish government, not the people.

Ok grand scheme of things it's not a big deal... Spending the night alone in the dark isn't great, but there's nothing I can do about that now. Nor is there anything I can do about the hundreds of dollars in food I'll have to throw out tomorrow and can't afford to replace.

Well, except gripe about it. Sorry, internet.

and pursuing draconian measures to protect advertising income reminds of the music industry in the late 90s. Teenagers didn't want to buy CDs anymore, we wanted our music to be digital. The music industry's response? You'll buy CDs and you'll like it, or else!
