I've always been confused about where the expectation that geographical relevance is cause for a content warning originated. It's annoying enough that CWs are widely misused across the fedi as is.

Like any social phenomena I don't expect there to be a clear cut answer. Seriously though, of all the warnings you've seen recently - how many were actually about a subject that is truly NSFW, harmful, or potentially traumatizing?

ascott,

@lulu_powerful
Oops... Yeah I can definitely see how it would create confusion.

The thing is I'm very pro-warning in situations that require it. When I see people complain about random drivel or politics that ends up on their timeline it really gets me for some reason.

I don't want to sound too harsh, everyone is entitled to a rant occasionally... but do we really need to warn each other that we come places with different political situations (or food) the same we do for porn and violence? 🤷

Hello friends, I've come to ask a favor. My partner is conducting a survey on food waste and zero-waste restaurants as part of a research project. If you could please find the time to participate in the next couple days it would really help! https://qfreeaccountssjc1.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3ORGpkeyQZgbUma

(Note that all dollar amounts are USD. You can skip any questions that don't apply to you, or that you'd prefer not to answer.)

In a couple weeks I'll officially no longer be a student. I should maybe update my bio, but without a job lined up or any kind of focus on my personal projects... I don't know, "jackass who sometimes writes code" doesn't have the same flow to it 😂

Stuff like this makes me feel like a crazy person. The font is obviously installed or the branch icon to the left wouldn't have been found. What do you want from me?!

ascott, to programming

I was always a "One True Brace Style" person. I got kind of used to Allman using C# with OmniSharp so much this quarter and I don't hate it. Obviously it uses more lines, but sometimes it's a lot easier to read... My world no longer makes sense.

i absolutely despise software and services that just go nuts without a working Internet connection.

Directly connected my laptop to an RPi via Ethernet cable. NetworkManager doesn't add an IPv6 LL address by default because "no router bad", and even worse, keeps dumping the LL address every time its connectivity check fails, which...breaks connectivity.

ascott,

@proactiveservices
I feel your pain. Had an issue with our IPv6 DNS and my android phone refused to connect to the network, even though IPv4 was working fine. It would try to connect, create a SLAAC address, then immediately abort when it couldn't reach the DNS server it prefers, then start over again in a loop.

Meanwhile connman on Artix gives zero shits if one the IPv6 DNS goes down and just uses the other.

My thermostat just crashed and rebooted.

THE FUTURE IS SO DUMB, Y'ALL.

ascott,

@RL_Dane I mean, I wouldn't say my old Honeywell is good, but it's never rebooted 🙃

Just coming across this now, it has since been updated to "fixed" with some additional comments. They also rolled back the change.

Blocking tech bros and neckbeards is so satisfying for me, and has certainly collected more than their fair share in the last 6 months.

ascott,

@sirber @nosherwan
LOL at this whole thread 😂

Honestly if people want to out themselves here that's fine with me. I'm of the opinion that everyone should be free to show the world they're a dick. So I can block them...

We submitted our first build for the 3D Escape Room game yesterday. There are currently 3 rooms, I'm responsible for the one pictured below. It's very cool to finally have a working game, especially after all the work we've put into it!

One of my team members did some bad merges in PlasticSCM today that wiped out all the work I did this week. I was able to fix the rest of the project, but I'm going to have to branch my own scene from an earlier changeset. What a shitty way to spend a Saturday...
