laptop docks on Linux are garbage. At least the one I just bought. It isn't recognized after reboot unless the lid is open, which entirely defeats the purpose of my having a dock.

@thelinuxcast Disable the magnet detection for the lid/screen. When you close the lid, the laptop is getting put to sleep so it has issues. I had to do this and my dock is a TS4 which ain't cheap. You can easily reenable later if need be.

@thelinuxcast Yeah, since I disabled it ... it's been working even when it's just a reboot. Something is jacked up in power management and my Thinkpad P15 behaved the same. 🤔 You could give it a shot, at best it's just a couple edits and a reboot.

@thelinuxcast I'm interested so checking back ... did disabling the detention of the magnet help? I wasn't clear the first time, it helped me not only with the sleeping part but also after rebooting with the lid closed.

@majorlinux This mf'er is just jealous of other CEO/Founders and wants to be a billionaire ... he's willing to do anything to achieve it. He's gone into the manic phase. SMH. He's also fulla shit about these apps. He really wants to shut out or profit large from LLMs scrapping the site so they can profit off our data ... he thinks it's HIS data and HE should be profiting off it more. He's a slimeball. Most of them are.

So I thought I'd be so clever and use Tilix for my scratchpad since it has a built-in dropdown terminal. But it doesn't work under Wayland. Damn you, Wayland. You suck.

@thelinuxcast Tilix has been in "feature complete" mode for a while, it hasn't been updated and I don't think it's going to be as the Dev doesn't seem to want to do so. In this instance, it's Tilex that's the problem. :(

@RL_Dane @thelinuxcast Yeah, but Tilix is basically abandonware at this point. And I forgot the trick that @FrasSmith mentioned, it does work. I did that on my Thinkpad X1 Nano. My work rig has an nvidia N200 chipset so it's still using Xorg for now.

I make a video where I say nice things about EndeavourOS and their so-called "friendly" community comes into the comment secion not being so friendly. That community is the least willing to see any criticism and react well to it out of any in the Linux sphere. I could criticize Arch, Gentoo or Mint and get much less guff than I do when I say a few not even that negative things abotu EndeavourOS.

@thelinuxcast I wouldn't worry about it. The Linux "Community" has been backbiting and fighting for 25+ years. It was worse when there were a bunch of UNIX flavors out there as well and never mind the BSD vs. Linux wars. Humans, they always find something to use as a religious cudgel. It's 95% of what holds Linux back. Someone posts and 20 loud MF'ers descend on them and forever turn them off. They'd rather use ad filled Windows spyware than Linux. It's sad really.

I really want to lift up the mods of the SFBA instance: @cd24, @Ingurido, @jeffkibuule

I, a Black woman, have had a marvelous experience on Mastodon because these mods don't play. For being a place-specific instance, SFBA has a very clearly expressed value system and it's reflected in the mods. They are proactive, even-handed, and respectful.

I wish others on and through the could say the same of their instance mods.

@DeliaChristina @alienghic Yeah, I've had folks ask me about Mastodon, I usually tell them to start out on a mobile app like Ivory once they look around for an instance to make a home. And I give them this link and have them bookmark it. Yeah, I know it's a lot but I always tell them that they don't have to read it all at once, just reference it if a question arises. I remember how hard Twitter was back in the 2007 to 2009 era. It's daunting until things come together.
