How important is the problem of protesters chanting "from the river to the sea" on college campuses compared to the death and destruction in Gaza?

bitterseeds,

@evan I'd say it depends on if one is Jewish or Palestinian.

@sickmatter @dbsalk @3goodthings I use it and Safari as not to give Google stats on market share. With this manifest v3 crap and all the other BS Google is doing ... just don't feel comfortable being deep in the Google eco-system anymore. And Apple Maps has come quite a long way. 🤷🏻‍♂️And I'm a graybeard.

bitterseeds,
@bitterseeds@fosstodon.org avatar

@susie @dbsalk @sickmatter @3goodthings Oh. I’m fine with Apple Maps. My issue is backend shenanigans that Google is pushing, not that their apps don’t work. Thanks for info. 😉 I’veeven stopped using Chrome. This manifest v3 garbage is just bad for the Internet generally. So, I’m voting with what I’ll use and not use. 🤘🏻

So dragging and dropping doesn't work from an xwayland app to a Wayland app?

If that's true, Wayland is not ready. Oh wait, been saying that for a bit.

bitterseeds,
@bitterseeds@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Which app to which app? I don't use a huge amount of QT apps but I can give it a shot. I've had no issues and my work rig is Gnome+Wayland.

bitterseeds,
@bitterseeds@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast I dragged an .mp4 vid from Krusader to kdenlive, no problem. I tried a few other video files and all plopped right into kdenlive. 🤔

@majorlinux It was disabled on v17 but prior to that you could do this. I'm not sure if it was a bug in 17 and now it's fixed or if they through it was a good idea to remove the function for 17. Either way, it's back to the way it was. :D My is now returned to the Viper car alarm lock sound. :D

@governorkeagan I checked Icecubes and it didn't have a setting to jump to the newest message. I took your OP as you'd like that feature. As far as recommendations, I really like Ivory. I switch between IceCubes and Ivory regularly.

@majorlinux I still wonder if this was all a ploy to get Apple to come after them so various entities could go to the EU and say "See!! Gatekeeper!" but then Apple announces RCS support which hobbles the effort.

Random question:

This "Covenant Eyes" software that Speaker Johnson reportedly uses, that hooks two bluenoses up to snoop on each other's internet usage ... has anyone found evidence of fundamentalist horndogs using it to collaboratively seek out porn? Not calling one another out, but actually using it to help find porn catering their personal kink?

bitterseeds,

@cstross I wouldn't put it past them. I really wouldn't. Those who scream the loudest against something are usually deep into it.

Nothing has iMessage like Apple - Desk Chair Analysts

bitterseeds,

@majorlinux But that was the plan. It's as if they were dangling the carrot of "come after us, please!" so they could show the EU just how gatekeepy Apple is with Messages. Nothing's service is so janky as far as their message client, it's the only thing I can co-sign.

If you pay for Facebook or Instagram to go ad free, I think you need some of your priorities checked. https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/10/23955987/instagram-facebook-without-ads-eu-subscription

bitterseeds,
@bitterseeds@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast "I paid for FB to be ad-free. There are no ads but I also don't get to see who I follow either. I get a bunch of suggestions on who to follow in place of the ads. I want to see who I follow, not strangers." ... this was a quote from a friend in the EU. So, it's $14 or whatever to have a bunch of strangers looking for their 15 minutes of fame, just like Reels are. It's horseshit and has nothing to do with privacy, they'll still hoover you.

I was video calling my partner on @signalapp (me from a Pixel, them from iOS 13) and some AI-generated emojis decorated their screen when they made a hand gesture... can't find anything about this except one Reddit comment where a user had the same thing happen and a commenter said it's a feature of . So we want to know.. 1) why is iOS analyzing video going through the Signal app, and 2) is this CV local or is data being shared with servers?

bitterseeds,
@bitterseeds@fosstodon.org avatar

@janeadams @signalapp There are literally hundreds of videos on YouTube explaining this feature in iOS 17 and MacOS 14.

bitterseeds,
@bitterseeds@fosstodon.org avatar

@janeadams @signalapp End to end means in transit. If you are seeing it on a device, it's not encrypted. So therefore it can put silly animated emojis in. Make sense? So, if you have a device and the end of the stream or text has been unencrypted for you to see, that's the extent of privacy given for E2E. Make sense?

bitterseeds,
@bitterseeds@fosstodon.org avatar

@janeadams I wasn’t trying to be condescending. I just didn’t get why there was was question since E2E is over the wire and once it’s in the devices it’s decrypted since one is seeing what was being sent. Sorry if I came off like that. 😔
