what do all of these things have in common?

they are far better uses of your time than being anti-black to black people, whether on the fedi or in real life

thank you for coming to my bread talk!

it remains bananas to me that people are that obsessed with being anti-black on the internet

cause one thing about me?

i don't spend time ruminating on people i don't like, let alone going out of my way to interact with them

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

if i were a better person, i would wish anti-black people healing

but alas, i am not

so i wish them a very jump off a cliff hang-glider free!

someone should really do a study on the overlap between C-PTSD and social media experiences in black people

particularly multiply marginalized black folks

cause wheewww buddy!

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

i may hate conventional psychology

but sometimes I do wonder how experiencing antiblackness by virtue of hypervisibility on socials has changed my brain chemistry, my nervous system, etc

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

and what's funny

what's really funny

is that logging off doesn't change much

because antiblack social media reflects the logics of an antiblack world

so there is no true "escape" in the way many delude themselves into imagining

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

okay to be clear

i made this thread specific to black people's experiences with social media & C-PTSD

while i'm sure everyone experiences trauma in the world

I am not everyone, nor do i care to be.

i am a black person.

quite frankly, black experiences of structural antiblackness as traumatic are either

A. ignored
B. tokenized
C. needlessly universalized to discuss everyone's issues, while still leaving us in the dust

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

if you're a non-black person reading this and thinking/replying "yeah, the world is traumatic to everyone!"

congrats on missing the point!

if you took five seconds to survey the pop-psych literature on black people, structural antiblackness, and PTSD (written by professionals and not celebs/influencers)

you'll find so little helpful info you will probably recoil as hard as black ND/(C-)PTSD baddies do on a regular basis

so take that impulse to universalize and......don't!

everytime i log back into this website, i think about how nedraa tawwab, the author of "set boundaries, find peace" should write a follow-up on how to respect peoples boundaries

cause the way sooooo many people struggle with that basic concept on this site is genuinely unnerving and makes spending oodles of time here an unattractive proposition

gotta love how people have been farming for thousands of years without playing hop-scotch-clock

but western modernity really prides itself on the manipulation of time to checks notes increase agricultural production

which is heinously irrelevant in a country saturated by the spoils of agribusiness, GMOs, and the exploitation of undocumented + prison labor to produce food (that winds up being tossed as food waste any fucking ways!)

blkstarseed,

like when people interview me to ask why i became an anti-colonial anarchist scholar and cultural worker

i will cite chrononormativity and daylight savings time as my villain origin story

this bullshit reminds me of a convo i was having with my best friend and their partner

we were talking about how the U.S left is stuck in a cycle of political education 101 precisely because people have not done the revolutionary study necessary to adequately address moments like this

and because we're having to play "catch up" all the time, our responses to moments like this are fundamentally inadequate and will remain inadequate

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

it brings to mind Juliette Singh's deconstruction of the way "mastery of knowledge" is an ideological holdover from colonization

and something that was even taken up by anti-colonial thinkers themselves

which had its value in producing what have become canonical anti-colonial texts

but from the standpoint of practical material gains and movement building is quite limited

(i'm summarizing her book Unthinking Mastery)

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

like knowing that Aime Cesaire literally became a europhile in order to write Discourse on Colonialism is amazing and mindblowing from an intellectual standpoint (like i remain in awe of this)

but from the standpoint of actual movement building, it's unrealistic to expect the masses to accumulate a doctorate's worth of knowledge before any revolution should take place

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

Rather, the benefit of unthinking mastery, as Juliette Singh puts is, is to release the idea that we have to become certifiable experts in order to enact a revolution

unthinking mastery also requires us to dislodge the way we prioritize certain forms of knowledge over other (written over oral) and different types of expertise (community member vs scholar)

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

in my own reading of Singh's Unthinking Mastery

unthinking mastery requires us to balance written and oral, communal and scholar in dialectical symbiosis with each other

it also means that "study" is an ongoing lifelong process, done collectively and individually

not for the purpose of being the "brightest" or "loudest" one in the room

but to make the connections and see the patterns of how colonialism and coloniality continue to claim the present and the future

blkstarseed,
@blkstarseed@anarchism.space avatar

it is very hard to stake any kind of claim for the future if you are blissfully unaware of the past

yet while the terms of "awareness" and "study" need not happen according to the logics of coloniality (meaning degreed, hierarchical, individualized/cult of individuality, institutionalized, etc)

study does have to happen!

you cannot shirk that responsibility all together and make shit up just to sound "in the know"
