In my youth I was a projectionist at the local theatre. Old school, arc lamps for the projectors. To this day I still see changeover marks on old movies. The marks that tell you when to start the second projector running and when to switch.

I don’t know much about Scottish politics, but it sounds like the SNP is finally facing the question all nationalist parties eventually face: apart from independence, who are you? Are you really an economically and socially progressive party. Or is independence your only thing and every other policy is up for change depending on how many votes you can muster from it?

@ianbetteridge I find it amusing you think that is a question only for nationalist parties. To me it’s been a constant that Labour and Tories can never quite decide who they are either. As always, parties are coalitions of folks who have different ideas of what the party is all about, nationalist+internationalist or not.

Got a broken USB-3 port on my Mac Mini: nothing plugged into that works at all. The flow on is that it seems to cause some mouse stuttering if I also have a USB-C hub plugged in. (And that's regardless of whether I use the mouse in Bluetooth or USB mode.) And it's out of warranty. I had been thinking I'd keep it for another couple of years but now I'm not so sure. Doesn't require immediate replacement but it is irking me.

(Because it's an Intel based system, I'm not sure I want to bother with the whole out-of-warranty repair costs.)

In my 30th year working in IT I have been reflecting on my experiences a little and of the 20 different orgs I have done work for so far, 7 were public sector and 13 private and , looking back, the folks working at the public sector ones were uniformly much nicer and less stressed. The ones who worked in banks and finance were absolutely the most stressed and least fun.
