@sayomgwtf Reminds me of the recon they did around the names. Mario brothers, so Luigi is Luigi Mario, and Mario is Mario Mario. sigh

Could have just said that Mario got the most attention by others as a kid, and they got collectively known as the Mario brothers. It’s not like it hasn’t happened before that one kid names the gang :)

I was reminded of a post I read recently about how “AI” is going to cause so much spam and disinformation (intentional or otherwise) and so much erosion in credibility, that the only reliable sources of news will be trusted networks of friends, not popular news media outlets, whose reporting will be either credulously fake, or manipulated.

And it dawned on me: for a small group of US citizens, this is already the reality of today. People in cults, conspiracy theory groups, and MAGA circles already believe that news media is credulous or manipulated (“fake”), and that the only reliable sources of news is their trusted circle of like-minded friends, who only confirm their biases and keep them tied to their dogmas.

@drahardja Anyone who wants to be trusted, as to build that trust. Now and in the past. The question is, how do you build trust today?

Because human or A.I. doesn’t matter, both can (and do) lie after all. Human doesn’t mean trustworthy after all.

A random example would be Steve and team at Gamer’s Nexus on YouTube. I trust what they report on. They have done real journalism in their field, and they have shown where they stand.

LTT I have no trust in.

@drahardja The meta question is, why isn’t news media in general trusted, and could news change to become more trustworthy?

For example most people know newspapers, networks, and anchors. But can they name the journalists?

Because you are bang on, isolation isn’t the solution at all. That just means I get no info at all. Most of us dingbats here aren’t much of a source.

@e_urq I trust. He’s earned it over time. I trust his intentions, and he will post “errata”. I know him by name.

@drahardja There’s also the commercial aspect, who owns it, the lack of being tougher on subjects, and a whole range of things.

I don’t have any big trust in media, and try to take in things from multiple sources (being bilingual helps a bit too). I’m not paranoid, and I don’t get my “news” from some opinion makers. But rather I can get too little info.

I can clearly hear too much about Trump, but seldom get to hear if Biden does something positive. I think better sources would change that.

@drahardja While I agree I think it breaks down when objective lies enter the field. Political spectrum bias is one thing (and big media wise we have right and far right to choose from in the U.S.), because I can counter for that. Event A happened (truth) and we think it’s good/bad (bias).

But when it’s genuine lies, how can I start trusting anything from that source? And worse, most people are so bogged down in their lives that they don’t have the energy to sift through it:(

So there's this genre of music that I've always called "hot girl" music because, in my mind, it's often made by 80s roller rink girls who sing about the joys of hooking up.

If you don't know what I mean, I'm talking about acts like Lisa Lisa, Taylor Dayne, and Stacey Q. And actually, I've always really dug it because it seems to exist somewhere between House and Miami Bass.

Today, I found out that this genre actually has a name. It's called "Freestyle". And I wish more people talked about it.

@eniko I wonder if the “well executed” part plays a role here.

Basically a good video is better than a bad text. A video is a bigger commitment in time and attention, so a bigger risk. It’s easier to skip and skim a text.

I think I’ve watched 1 or maybe 2 of your educational videos. Are you sitting on more than I could go and enjoy?

Only buy from official resellers. Don't enable/reward scalpers.

There might be a few legitimate sales too, but scalpers are trying to claw back any money now that Pis are back in stock everywhere.

If you do buy used, get market rates (which are good now) on eBay.

@geerlingguy There’s a lot of niche things people have built on their spare time that only works with older or specific Pis, and they aren’t being updated (not harping on anyone for that btw).

So there’s a want for not just the newest and best. So people offloading older models would be a neat thing. Just saying :)

@geerlingguy Absolutely. Scalping and hoarding is bad. Or in the case of properly important things (food, meds, etc) even worse.

But there has got to be a lot of old Pis out there just sitting, that could get a better life somewhere :)

A 128 Pi cluster though. That would be neat :)

@geerlingguy Reminds me of prop departments. I know they put an amazing amount of work into things that will only be seen for a fraction of a second and often so blurry that we the audience don’t know. But it has such amazing amount of detail.

@sayomgwtf I’m surprised that there aren’t more specialized outfits etc for dogs. Like design them up like anime characters or streamers or game characters in general. Outside of a few super popular ones.

Or just some really cool harness. I’d love an RX-78-2 Gundam harness. And a Char Red Comet something for the other dog:)
