@miblo Was listening to KEXP, before a break John Richards was like, "when we come back, I guess I have to share some news I really don't want to", and I was like, oh shit...Then, yeah, shit.

buffyleigh,
@buffyleigh@mas.to avatar

@miblo I honestly hear most of my music news on KEXP these days. How I found out about Chris Cornell and Prince too.

I want to record an audio book that's just 8 hours of breathing and page turning and then right at the end I say, "Oh, you mean out loud?"

@qurlyjoe Might I suggest that the teaser clip is 4 minutes 33 seconds long?

I’m going to focus on my problem of whether I start a new list or just keep adding to the list of albums I listened to last month, because I can solve that problem and can’t do a damn thing about, like, anything else at all right now.

buffyleigh,
@buffyleigh@mas.to avatar

@miblo I only heard of it recently (on here), haven't yet really looked into though! I'm just literally typing out what I listen to (full albums only, otherwise it would be impossible). Do you know if scrobbling would work when streaming a radio show?

buffyleigh,
@buffyleigh@mas.to avatar

@miblo Ah okay, I should look into one day then!

Following the last toot, one of my favorite live music experiences ever was when they played on a stage set up in the middle of Whyte Ave in and led us all screaming "WE DO ACID WE DO ACID" in broad daylight. It was beautiful.

I need a nonfiction book about music to read. Anyone have any recommendations, either based on what they know I'm into or something that is broad in topic / too awesome to miss for a music nerd? Biographies/memoirs are cool, psychology of music, genre/era/region focused, oral histories...

Today @buffyleigh had a thread about albums with "II" in the name and it made me think about Queen II. I came to a conclusion, which is:

Queen II is the album nobody who dislikes Queen ever listened to.

buffyleigh,
@buffyleigh@mas.to avatar

@derthomas Lol! I don't dislike Queen but I've never listened to it, so I guess I can expect to at least still not dislike them after hearing it?

buffyleigh,
@buffyleigh@mas.to avatar

@derthomas I'll let you know!

buffyleigh,
@buffyleigh@mas.to avatar

@derthomas Whoa, you're totally right. This album is great!!!

The last two full albums I listened to both had Roman numerals in the title, and were both numbered "II".

Anyone have other recommendations of albums with "II" in the title?

@nic Too slow for a pub or in general? (Will check out either way.)

Was asked the other day who I think have the best voices. My definition of 'best' isn't necessarily best technically, but rather their voice makes me stop in my tracks every time and I want to hear anything they sing on. I knew I had forgotten some (sure I still am), so updating list here. What are yours?

Ronnie James Dio
Chris Cornell
Layne Staley
Eddie Vedder
Lindy-Fay Hella, Einar Selvik (Wardruna)
Michael Stipe
Robin Wattie (Big|Brave)
Anna von Hausswolff
Stephen Brodsky (Cave In)

Does anyone keep a list of weird/uncommon words they come across in books they read (or other media, at that)? I seem to come across strange words and think “hmm, not sure I’ve seen this in a book before” and then kinda sorta wish I could verify that…

New out today!!! They're always on my AOTY lists, and this release is no different.

My goodness, I loooove the guitar tone and wall of noise/distortion on this album. And is apparently on a couple tracks! 🤘

Decided to look up "Blåhaj" because I didn't get why so many people on Mastodon post about a stuffed shark, and finding out why is my new favorite TIL thing.

You know when it takes your brain a minute to catch up? I just sat down at my laptop where Mastodon is open and absently just refreshed the page. As I did so, I swear someone had posted to my timeline....

What if, big egg?

With just a picture of a massive egg.

I must have seen it for only the briefest moment and cannot find it. Does anyone know what the hell I'm talking about? I must know about big egg or if I made it up and why either way.

buffyleigh,
@buffyleigh@mas.to avatar

@TheBreadmonkey I love that simply asking if others saw a post you can’t find is the best search method on Mastodon. It’s just…wholesome. :blobaww:

I dunno who needs to know this, but in Canada, at least, AppleTV is selling the entires series of both The Expanse and Battlestar Galactica for $25 each. Last week box set was $60. This may mean I never subscribe to Prime Video again.

What's a song that makes you cry every time you hear it? (No need to explain why.)

Mine are Bowie's "I Can't Give Everything Away" and, as I was just reminded listening to the City of Angels soundtrack for the first time in probably 15 years, Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris".

@HailsandAles Ooo songs that give me goosebumps ever time is a great category.
