When I write: ”Palestine shall be free, from the river to the sea”, am I an antisemite?

My view is I am not. Actually I don’t even even have a quarrel with with Israel existing.

The UN resolution that founded Israel didn’t say the Palestinians should leave. Israel made that decision all by themselves.

Having made that choice, one is fully responsible for the consequences. Including millions of people singing to have their homes back, and the sympathy for them.

The dilemma I have with the phrase comes down to in spite of some very reasonable arguments from respectable scholars and mature adults to the contrary, it has been hijacked by the more extreme members of the political spectrum.

Changing the word Palestine to Palestinians fixes it for me.

But that's really just a sop to my conscience... Still doesn't fix the actual problem :-(

Aye... Unfortunately those with the power to do something are still in the Neville Chamberlain 'we can negotiate peace in our time' phase while Netanyahu is well into the Hitler 'annex first and screw you spineless bastards' phase.

And all the while forgetting who is bearing the brunt of the aggression.

Even down here in Ao/NZ our government haven't moved on from the hand-wringing sniveling plaintive 'please stop' general wailing and moaning. Cowards!

reminder that if Netanyahu & the US gets away with this in #Gaza — targeting journalists, targeting hospitals and schools and refugee camps, starving millions of children, mass murder on the scale of tens of thousands, shutting down press, internet and information, killing humanitarian workers, preventing crucial aid convoy, firing on people receiving aid, and planning resettlement of regions based on ethnic identity — these methods will be normalized & advanced by other western nations & govts

    Hamas absolutely screwed up with the October attack and handed Netanyahu everything he needed on a plate. He knows all he needs to do is keep pushing the Palestinians out before the USA grows a spine and throws him under the bus. That's not going to happen before November given just under half of voting US citizens still think Trump is a better candidate.

    Plenty of time to clean Gaza out and no downside for him.

    Correct. So knowing what the risks are lets you determine a mitigation strategy.

    And mine is, as you have observed, to limit my criticism of your support of substack to:

    1. the fallacy of them claiming a "Free Speech" defence when they are not legally obligated to honour that.
    2. specifically platforming Nazis for which there is a) ample evidence that they just don't give a shit and cannot be reasoned with and b) lost a war in which the rest of the world said NO to their ideas.
