As an experiment, I have setup a YouTube channel where I'm uploading compilations of the videos I share here in Mastodon to see if I can get it popular enough to let Google pay for our server bills here :ed_grin:

@stux I'm rather sure it's not a good idea because of multiple factors.
You're feeding into someone else's platform-capitalism which you certainly don't understand completely. They have all the analytics tools they need to identify whatever you're up to and they can do whatever they feel like to limit what money you can make and cut you out.
Next thing is damaging your own credibility with such biz adventures. Not terrible, but also not particularly cool.
Another point is that it takes away time from projects that are more likely due and appropriate, that include collecting money for your services from those using them. And find ways to do so while minimizing the amount of transactions and transaction costs.

@eniko I have been using Firefox as my main browser since its inception almost 20 years ago. First on Windows, but for the last 12 years mainly on Linux. It is beyond me how people can dig up all sorts of shitty browsers, many of them Chrome-based, but not even realise that Firefox is clearly on a different level.

I got this cheap portable video light, and it comes with some preset light animations.

This has a USB-C port, maybe it exposes something more than power?

Maybe it'd be possible to get access to this thing's underlying software and reprogram it? ;)

@unfa 👍 would also be my best guess. But you also need to find out what the controller chip is, find a datasheet or other documentation for it to find the pinout and then, trace/continuity check where relevant pins go, thereby maybe confirm the 5 holes/pins.
Also "cheap thing" is probably not what gets a lot of interest/resonance from experts.

Wer von euch NICHT ITler:Innen oder Webdesigner:Innen schreibt und notiert Texte in Markdown Format? (egal für oder/und auf was)

Ich nutze es so gut wie immer, auch für Notitzen. Doch einige beschweren sich, dass dies zu umständlich und schwer sei. Ich sei ITler deswegen sei es nichts für sie ect. Deren ausreden verstehe ich nicht aber kann mir wer diese erklären? (nope Weblinks wird nicht von denen angenommen)

@kubikpixel Für gar nichts verwende ich Markdown, wenn ich es vermeiden kann. Und es braucht keine "Ausrede", sich nicht mit dysfunktionalen Krempel zu beschäftigen. Mein volles Verständnis gegenüber "denen" 👍

Antwort: Die versprochenen Ziele des Konzepts werden nicht erreicht. 🤷

Das ist übrigens ein wiederkehrendes Muster in IT, dass scheinbar clevere Ansätze nur in sehr einfachen oder passend ausgewählten Beispielen funktionieren, in der Praxis aber ganz schnell an Grenzen stoßen. Und dann fängt das große rum-eiern an, wenn man nicht seinem eigenen Urteil vertraut.

Deshalb finde ich es wichtig, auch Menschen zu bestärken, die z.B. intuitiv bzw. mit implizitem Wissen dysfunktionale Konzepte erkennen, dass sie nicht in der Position der Rechtfertigung sind.

I have some haunting memories of the smell of that stuff because I cleaned a set of devices for a client with it for two days straight and it really made me not enjoy any drinks with orange zests in them, leave alone orange juice... for. weeks. but! If you need to clean a surface and don't want to use heavy solvents, give WEICON Industrial Citrus Cleaner (with lemonene being the main cleaning agent) a try! It dissolves left over adhesives in the blink of an eye. (not a paid advertisement)

@nblr 🤔 75% isopropanol as what the manufacturer states for the product, might as well try that first, have it cheap and don't have to suffer from that citric smell

    @nblr Meine Einschätzung als an Steuerthemen interessierte Nicht-Steuerfachperson: kannste knicken. Also dass es wahrscheinlich doch auf begünstigte Nutzung hinaus läuft, weil berufspolitische Aktivitäten (ebenso wie z.B. Fortbildung) dem beruflichen Zweck gleichgestellt sind UND die Traktoren obendrein der berufspolitischen Darstellung dienen, also da auch nicht verzichtbar wären und das auch letzlich Konsens ist (dagegen vorgehen wollen ist halt auch Anerkennung dieses Umstands).
    Und sage das jetzt nicht weil ich irgendwas mit den "Schweinebauern" zu tun habe, sondern um nicht in so eine m.M.n. unproduktive Baustelle Energie reinzustecken und sich da keine PR-Klatsche abzuholen.

    @stux the issue seems to be CPU performance related. For comparison, I fired up my i7 workstation where "it" runs smoothly, while on my i3 daily driver, physics are wonky and the character is somewhat dipping into the ground

    @stux what do you mean by platform (its either both firefox on linux, mint i3, fedora i7, both intel graphics) or do you mean the surface the character is running on in the game, then it's everywhere unless completely falling through eventually

    @nblr 😌 Na, einen Ring sehe ich da nicht so im Verdacht, zumal wahrscheinlich eher aus W-Carbid hergestellt.
    Aber bei solchen Preisen und je dickwandiger das Gebilde, zumal nicht zur weiteren Be-/Verarbeitung bestimmt, desto skeptischer wäre ich, ob da nicht ein "Kern" aus anderem Material enthalten sein könnte. Wie z.B. bei gefälschten Goldbarren.
