I love* how Naqvi and friends (of developers) churned out a 50 page pdf full of nonsense renders and barely meaningful maps saying some of the right things but really just manufacturing consent to sell federal assets to developers for a song. The city of is run by the worst people alive.

@Auxonic you mean put the library on several major bus routes, near to the densest neighbourhood in the city, and within easy lunchtime walks of 10s of thousands of employees?

A couple of shopping trips these last two days, during quiet store times, and masked.

With COVID in the house, I'm preparing in case I get it too, and there'd be nobody to nurse me along. Pantry was pretty well stocked already. A couple of days of incoming nasty weather too, so I'm ready for various Armageddon scenarios.

chrisbegley,
@chrisbegley@mstdn.social avatar

@jaybaltz @ottaross I had almost asymptomatic COVID recently. Only tested as I was visiting elderly people and had felt a bit lethargic (which I otherwise attributed to the grey, rainy, short days)

@spurs // Ali Gold on Emerson Royal

“Tottenham defender Emerson Royal believes that life as a centre-back could be something he takes to as his career progresses.”

I really like Royal. He's not the best in any area but he works so hard, is still young, improving, and such a good energy to have around the club. For me he was second best player against Burnley after Porro.

I agree that we need players who accept the backup role. I would prefer to have 4 starting CBs but that is not realistic - if a player should be a starter on a CL level club, Spurs can't afford to pay them to be 4th choice. So having Davies and Royal who accept their role gives us a huge advantage

I love Mastodon but there are sometimes little broken things that persist. I look at my SO's view of my toots and I occasionally see people who've replied to me, but the replies are not visible to me.

I check their account and instance and find them neither blocked nor muted. I guess the federation just doesn't quite click sometimes.

chrisbegley,
@chrisbegley@mstdn.social avatar

@ottaross testing one-two-three.. I usually only see them in my notifications, not my feed. It makes Mastodon much less useful to me

chrisbegley,
@chrisbegley@mstdn.social avatar

@stephanie @ottaross to me, this is the core problem with Mastodon. I don't want to have to know about how fédération or anything works. I just want it to work. If I have to struggle to figure out why, then I will just lose interest, and most people are like that I suspect. Right now, it is awkward having conversations, which is kind of the point?

    @casseagull Book review 2023! I read lots, but lots of it was Lee Child and a series called Ava Lee. Just escapism (but fun!!!).
    Best book I read was Factory Girls, set in Northern Ireland 1994. Great read. Second was Nobody's Fool, which I liked because it was about working class men in a serious way.
    Honourable mentions:
    August Into Winter
    The Sorcerer of Pyongyang
    Everyone in my family has killed somebody
    The Wall (Austrian)
    The Ninja Daughter
    The Private Apartments

    @Alon prior to the 1846 Oregon Treaty, Great Britain argued that the territory from the [Columbia] River to the [Pacific Ocean] belonged to them.

    A neat corner of the internet I hadn't come across before – the space. Sounds like teams work to solve a bunch of puzzles in a short time using online/offline resources.

    One emerged three years ago at Stanford called . Their third puzzle gets started in ten days.

    Seems too intensive for my tastes – a pub quiz is about as much as I ever hazard – but I like that this exists!

    See the link if you're interested. Reading the about & faq is fun too.

    Should I blog sometime about how public transport is fairly unique as a form of social and government interaction that is still low-key? The contrast is that other forms of care provided by the state, like health and education, are heavy-touch (mediated by doctors and nurses, teachers, and social workers), and get incredibly hostile to immigrants with demands to acculturate. I got talked down to when I got vaccinated; but when I get on the trains, I don't. @mckra1g

    After 15+yrs with an #AppleTV and seeing the sleep screens focused on dramatic views of natural beauty around the world, I began noticing in the last few years a conspicuous lack of anything in #Canada.

    I suppose we don't have much in the way of dramatic natural landscapes nor a substantial landmass relative to other countries, so I can see how it might not come up. Oh look, Iceland has dramatic rivers and Greenland has snowy mountains. Nice.
