65, a scifi movie with Adam Driver is a flawed but good movie, I'm glad I didn't watched the trailer though, one of the most interesting things is something they spoil all over the promotional material.

something in my thought cabinet that I don't have any conclusions on yet: most forms of development planning I've worked with in my career have amounted to some form of acknowledging that you can't accurately estimate complex tasks, but then go and pretend you can accurately estimate small tasks, and precede to make up a set of small tasks, make up estimates for them, click them together like lego bricks, and viola there's your ship date or stack ranking KPIs or whatever

col000r,
@col000r@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@aeva Reminds me of something from long ago: company hired a new producer. Her task was to figure out how much longer the game would take to finish. So she went to everyone and asked: how long until you're done with all your work? I tried to explain that I don't even know 70% of my tasks yet because they depend on what the designers come up with and it's a fluid, iterative process. Didn't help, had to make up a number. So did everyone else. Was any useful knowledge gained? I have my doubts...

Something weird is going on in the Unity scene view: the bottom of the view is black, obscuring everything (including the grid). The region gets larger if I zoom in. There are no GameObjects to click on in the void region.

What's going on? A web search finds many forum posts with people having the same problem, and suggestions that it is a bug which has gone unfixed for at least ten years.

Help!

@raptor85 oh interesting! I've never stumbled upon 1.27mm pins before. Thanks a lot for the pointers! I might get a pitch changer for my breadboarding needs! - Would feel better than using a "full-sized" C6 for breadboarding and then just hoping it works the same on the mini version...

Time is changing. 🤷‍♂️ 🥳 😂

Just stumbled upon https://ground.news and it seems like a really good idea... It's a news aggregation side that keeps track of political bias, publication ownership as well as what they call a "factuality score".
What this allows you to do is to pick a topic and see who's writing what about it with an easy way to tell which way a publication is leaning politically, if they're generally sticking to the facts and who they're owned by.
Looks very promising...

IconFactory is trying to raise money for Project Tapestry on Kickstarter. I'm all for people creating glorified RSS readers, but there's some red flags with this one. The video shows things that are not on their list of supported services, and the FAQ says they have not decided on a business model yet (!) - this is the biggest red flag for me. I definitely don't need another ad-driven social media or news app in my life. But idk, form your own opinions: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iconfactory/project-tapestry

Finally got around to playing our first few games of NISEI (the community-run continuation of Android Netrunner) - liked it a lot! The asymmetric nature of hacker/runner vs Corp is pretty interesting.
As the Corp you place agendas and assets and deploy ICE to protect them. The Runner builds up their hardware and software and goes on runs to break through your ice and steal your agendas.
The rules are explained pretty terribly, but glad we got there in the end!

Utech just evicted seven times more people than comprised the entirety of the company when I left.

It would seem safe to assume that the clowns who have conducted this charming human experiment all the way up & down that 7x are not to be found among those on the street.

col000r, to boardgames
@col000r@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

What does a boardgame require to make it a meaningful multiplayer experience? How do you do it so you actually play AGAINST other people or WITH other people, not just NEXT TO other people?
Cascadia: You play against other people, but you might just as well be playing alone and text your score to your friends.
Azul: Similar problem, but slightly more interesting due to a better mechanism for choosing your next tiles, which gives you more opportunity to mess with others.

col000r,
@col000r@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@AngryAnt I really like Kingdom Death Monster, but I mostly play it solo. With multiple players you can get some different play styles in there, but for the most part you're just off on the same adventure and it doesn't matter so much who is playing who and who you're playing with. I think Aoens End and 7th Continent go in a similar direction, or do they offer more options there?

col000r,
@col000r@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@syntaxseed Excellent point! Any specific games you're thinking about? For me Arkham Horror LCG comes to mind as you really have to make sure the different characters together cover all the bases...
