I found out today that Mustard Plug released a new album last year.

Looks like today is a late 90s themed Ska Punk day in the office, then.

I had to double-check my notes on this one - f/2.9 with a 75mm lens on a scale-focus medium format camera shouldn't be this sharp. Sure, the corners are a bit weird, but still... not too shabby.

Also, I've wanted to photograph this abandoned tunnel for a long time. Finally found myself with the right conditions and with the right footwear to do a bit of casual trespassing. Well worth the wait.

A AND a in one fell swoop.

Is there a squirrel-related hashtag, too? There probably should be.

I shot a roll of 220 for the first time in 12 years today.

It was oddly liberating having 12 extra frames to burn through, but having seen this when I went to empty the camera just now, I’m glad I didn’t try to reload while out and about.

I guess I’m going back to carrying elastic bands when I shoot medium format.

I don't usually like photographing random people but this moment was too perfect to pass up.

Also, it seems I'm gradually building up quite a good collection of shots; I should probably do something with them all...

I guess this would have been a candidate for at one point. Now it just stands like a dead monolith at the side of the road.

I'm going to christen it Ozymandias.

Q: What effect has Apple's browser ban on iOS had?
A: https://ios404.com/

coldkennels,
@coldkennels@mastodon.social avatar

@owa So many of these are things I actively don't want websites to be able to do or have access to anyway.

For instance, my partner reactivated her Facebook account recently and told me she was going to close it again because it was sending her push notifications THROUGH HER BROWSER. As an iOS user since 2011, this horrified me. That shouldn't be normalised or accepted.

coldkennels,
@coldkennels@mastodon.social avatar

@alfonsoml @owa I said something similar to her. Apparently she has turned them off - and Facebook keeps turning them back on somehow.

But this gets to my main issue with "web apps" and the arguments against Apple's "walled garden" approach: it is far, far easier for bad actors to pull shenanigans in a "web app" than on a native app installed from a carefully-screened store. All it'd take is one malicious or disguised link, especially with an end-user who isn't very tech-savvy.

coldkennels,
@coldkennels@mastodon.social avatar

@owa @alfonsoml Android. Presumably Chrome, but I'd have to check when she gets home from work.

I don't disagree that the App Store is an imperfect solution - but I'd argue that's why Apple's put tight restrictions on so much. It's easy to argue for technological libertarianism, but at this point, I'm willing to bet 90% of people using smart phones and tablets are so un-tech-savvy that they're effectively easy marks - and when people are banking through these devices, they need safeguards.

I took this back in November. I remember not being very happy with it when I saw the scan for the first time - looking at it now, I have no idea why.

I guess it's true: sometimes a bit of distance does help.

Meanwhile, my happy place.

Almost 30 years after it was released, I still get so much joy out of the original . I have it hooked up to a great sound system and use a proper RGB SCART lead to get the most out of these old games, and whether I've got a bunch of friends over for a games night or I'm just chilling out alone, I still love relaxing into a classic RPG or racing game.

@texcut Hell yeah. I loved Resident Evil 3 in particular - something about that game really clicked with me.

Same with Dino Crisis - that was slower, more puzzle-based, but so good.

coldkennels,
@coldkennels@mastodon.social avatar

@texcut Agreed. A lot of the limitations of the original PlayStation was really what made the games so good - Silent Hill was only so foggy to cover the draw distance limitations, for instance. But it worked!

I'm eternally amazed with what developers could do in that era. For instance, if you look at Vagrant Story's file size, the NTSC-U version is just 66MB - but it's easily one of the best games I've ever played.

I was looking through pics for @alex_roddie earlier and found this old one of Faris in the process. Seems fitting for .

One last medium format photo of this old church for / .

This is the "newer" half of the church. It's quite beautiful, but the roof doesn't have the rustic charm of the original half.

I finally put in a claim with my pet insurance for the end-of-life care for Faris, my cat.

I've been putting it off for weeks. I think it's six weeks now since she died. I still cried a little.

I miss this little shouty fucker.

I'm currently working on an website for a organisation that was very influential on (and important to) me in the early 2000s.

I am quite enjoying the attempt at undoing/reversing the "social-media-fication" of this small space; first thing I did was include iCal and feeds, for example. One of the guys I'm working with has talked of building out a forum.

Quite whether it'll stick and see the use I hope it gets is a different thing altogether. But one can only hope.

Nothing quite like finishing a roll of film and checking the times listed in the box for your intended developer and dilution and seeing “8-10 minutes”.

Helpful.

Guess we’re going for a 1:25 dilution, then.
