A huge congratulations to @philipthalis on his well-deserved award.

Philip is undeniably both one of Australia's most respected architects and a tireless advocate for good urban design.

More importantly, he's not afraid to speak up publicly against bad state government planning decisions, as he did with Barangaroo, even when there's a personal cost.

While Tokyo's Harajuku remains a popular district, some say it has lost its shine from the late 80s and early 90s. Local efforts are looking to get its creative juices flowing again. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2024/05/02/harajuku-change/

Photos around a few areas close to Downtown Midland, MI: Dow East End Building, a mural underneath a bridge, right behind that mural is a view of a river that runs underneath that same bridge, a bird mural on the side of a building, flowers, and a residential building. Shot in June 2023.

Ooh, mesh size measurements for common pests! (also, I probably don't want to even know what a "Cheese skipper" is). https://basc.pnnl.gov/resource-guides/reduce-pest-intrusion#edit-group-description

This week’s photo challenge was “Orange”.

I shuffled round Royal Victoria Park in my Deadpool pyjamas to capture this quite orangey building.

is located in the curved building you see, in this looking up from ground photo. I was waiting for Mom to bring car from parking lot. I loved how beautiful the skies looked & took 2 photos, while I was waiting. One is of the skies & buildings. Another of my pants & sneakers.

I'm curious how many times people fall off the deck there in the middle of the night when they have to pee, resulting in a head injury or broken leg. Also... do they not have mosquitos there? https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20240420-12-stunning-buildings-that-bring-nature-inside

A pic I took of the Jacksonville, FL skyline on an old digital camera back in December 2011. I revisited this photo several years later and tried to go with a “cinematic” look.

PNNL: Design for Extreme Heat. "This guide is intended to provide basic concepts and strategies for designing homes to be safer during extreme heat events. When designing homes for extreme heat, the overarching goal is simply to keep the building occupants cool enough to avoid health risks, particularly when the power is out or A/C is not available. “They don’t get much in the way of posthumous glory, but Roman surveyors have left us a wealth of technical treatises, collectively known as the Corpus Agrimensorum Romanorum, which is of unique historical importance for its detailed descriptions of the nature of land settlement, and the role of emperors, especially Augustus, in regulating urban centers in a rural environment. Archaeologist David Gilman Romano, longtime director of the Corinth Computer Project, has been using the Agrimensores to understand the rural geography of Corinth and the nature of Roman re-settlement of the city…
