Making it taboo or forbidden to protest a war, military action, weapons, and nationalism is a fundamentally fascist thing to do.

Much of the 'west' is currently living under fascism that is so normalized that we just call it "patriotism" now.

"Packaging is a major source of contamination. PFAS are widely added to packaging to prevent foods from sticking to products or as a grease-proofing agent, and research shows the chemicals can migrate at high levels into food and liquids."

Free pair of speakers from the recycling centre today, which didn't work - but I took them apart and repaired them. Now they work great! Very proud of myself. 😁

People have a lot of ideas about what you ought to do.

Do whatever you want here, or anywhere else. Do what makes you happy. True happiness doesn't harm others.

I wish every Biden supporter would read this right now. A great argument from a scholar of borders. Older article but very relevant.

'Why Democrats should support open borders'

"The Republican position is coherent, but racist. The Democrats need a forceful pro-immigration rebuttal to beat it"

I remember in the 90s there were people who were said to be 'stuck' in the 60s.

Sometimes now I feel like one of those people stuck in the 90s.

My younger self would have been just astonished by this idea.

BC has more doctors per person than almost anywhere else in Canada and yet "one million British Columbians are estimated to be without a family doctor..."

This is what a 'universal' healthcare system looks like when it isn't really universal and isn't really funded the way it should be.

The new trend increasing every day in Canadian media, including CBC, is to write about something that has always been a problem in Canada because politicians refuse to act and people refuse to hold them accountable and then blame it on immigrants.

The latest example: 6 million Canadians can't get a primary care physician. And yet CBC found a way, of course, to bash migrants in the article.

If Canada wants more doctors, Canada should invest in education, housing, and healthcare, and not make it harder and harder every year for international students, like those studying medicine, and other migrants who are already doctors, to come to Canada and stay here.

In light of the anti-queer policies at the heart of US right-wing politics it's fascinating that the standard-bearer for that movement continues to paint his entire head with orange makeup.

It's also reflective of a core fascist ideology: those who are in the group considered human can do anything they want, those who are excluded by the fascists have no rights to do anything at all.

Canadians, if that "thought piece" on immigration 1. invokes international students but 2. mentions NOTHING about immigrants' millions of dollars of purchasing and millions of hours of labor filling holes across sectors, and does not 3. address the conversion of housing to an asset class in which properties are held largely outside of traditional housing markets ...

that piece you are sharing is Poilievre propaganda, controlling dialogue and asserting its agenda, and you're letting it ride free

It is so disturbing to watch this emergent politics, where everyone competes to see who can adopt the right-wing positions fast enough.

And to hear something like this directed at migrants: "We desperately need you here, but won't do any of the things necessary to make that happen, and will actually do everything we can to make it harder, and more expensive, and more traumatizing, etc."

Whether or not this is meant to protect kids, what it does do is raise a generation of people to expect surveillance, and to normalize that, among other things:

"a record half of U.S. renters paid more than 30% of their income for rent and utilities. Nearly half of those people were severely cost-burdened, paying more than 50% of their income"

Housing is now unaffordable for a record half of all U.S. renters:

After reading over the last few months about the emergence of an 'anti-fascist left' in Germany that supports Israel's genocidal war on Gaza, I wonder if the anti-fascist protests in Germany are mostly made up of actual anti-fascists or that new strange pro-fascism kind that has emerged there.
