On the revert reds, TWICE this week I had revert reds happen to me (once I rolled off the dots too soon and the other I wasn't in the right place and forgot I wouldn't get my signal that way) and BOTH TIMES the motorists at the cross streets waved me to go through the intersection anyway. It was very nice.
I think that the first time (Kenilworth/Holland) the guy saw me swear up a storm when I saw it revert red lol
@casseagull@ksawatsky IIRC, the city argues if drivers have to stop but don't see why (e.g. the person has already biked across) then it will reduce compliance with traffic signals. But that logic isn't applied to non-drivers, so those walking and on bikes may develop the same level of contempt towards traffic signals that the designers of said signals have for them.
Did the Ottawa River-Pinecrest Creek-Experimental Farm-Canal MUP loop this afternoon. Decided to stay west of the Canal, which was a mistake, but super nice ride other than that Parliament-War Museum segment (when will behind Parliament reopen??).
Next time I think I should cross the canal, take the Alexandra Bridge to the path on the north side of the Ottawa and cross back on the Commanda (which I think was closed today).
@ShaunOttawa My manager okayed my request for compressed hours recently, this is my first "extra day off". It is nice not to have the kids home and also not be working.
(I saw these are worth trying because I realized I was often doing a bit of extra time most days anyways just by losing track of time and finishing up tasks before logging off, so it's not a big shift and getting that time recognized with day off every 2 weeks makes sense to me...now if my employer decides to follow core and go RTO3, it won't be possible, but they've said "not this fiscal" so far!)
@ShaunOttawa I did it from 2010-2013, during my first public service stint, and I remember it being great (I had no kids and lived a 5min bike from the office, so the extra time was easy). WFH makes it way easier because there's not the time commuting! I hope I can maintain it, at least through the summer.
This business felt a bit stretchy on the parkway today but… it’s at least something that’s not flexi-posts?!! Also the whole idea that the parkway couldn’t be single lane is bullshit. The problem at island park is one of public transit, not a lack of lanes for car traffic #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter
Things are looking good for the Northern lights. I've never wanted the sun to go down early before but hurry up darkness (my old friend). #aurora#northernLights
Edit. This only makes sense if I fill in some details. If KP (whatever that is) is high, aurora is more likely. The number on the bottom right is cloud cover.
Combined, the clouds will dissipate and the magnetic clouds will increase. A good combo! Unless it gets too high I guess. Then it's bad. Charge your phone.
@Auxonic Venn diagram of people who don't want new builds to pay the costs for their infrastructure and who also want low taxes is a circle. If this development is happening, the costs have to be paid. The question, I guess, is by who and the answer cannot be "nobody."
The homebuilder association spokesperson seems to get it, but also seems to be arguing both ways.
Wednesday: TB announces new RTO policy increasing on site presence.
Thursday: Info comes out that the secretary of TB works remotely and regularly flies into Ottawa costing us tens of thousands of dollars.
Friday: Secretary of TB resigns for "health reasons"
That was quick.
@grivettcarnac@ladybugspicnic We've been seriously considering cancelling it since January and this is the boost we need to just let it expire by not changing tiers...our kids watch Netflix the most (Bouba, Grizzy and the Lemmings, Alien TV) but that's not enough to justify it.
@johnefrancis@geekingirl Find someone to take a full lunch hour with to look at birds outside and call it "maintaining effective interpersonal relationships."
huh...next door neighbor sold their house a few weeks ago...today hydro and electricians are disconnecting the solar panels and their separate service line...I guess they're taking them with them? Seems odd.
@grivettcarnac Good luck! Hopefully it stays contained. My kids had gastro over Easter...starting 1 hour after arriving at my parents house after a 4hr drive.
@grivettcarnac It's in line with Ford fucking with Toronto's internal democracy mid-election and the whole "strong mayor" thing. I'm not sure if other provinces are attacking local governance as aggressively.
